I enjoyed carrying and shooting my G&H, fitted with a Lyman 48, so much during our deer season that I removed the scope, rings and bases from my Pre-64, Winchester M70 in 300H&H and am relying on the factory iron sights. The rifle handles so much better without the scope. With a 26" barrel the...
It's hard to beat a Pilot Varsity as a place to start. Check out Amazon - they have them. Payton Street Pens out in CA has a great selection of pens, including old new in stock FP's that have never been inked, for less than $50. Search for them on the Web. Teri is the proprietor and is great...
I don't think the average US movie-goer has the intellectual capacity to appreciate a movie that isn't spelled out for them. I have seen far too many incredibly well made foreign films that were clearly dumbed-down when re-made for US audiences. Two relatively recent releases come to mind...
Just ordered another FP: an NOS Eversharp Symphony 913 made in 1950. I suppose the next part of the fun will be trying different inks. I am partial to very dark/rich blue ink that is fast drying. Suggestions?
I got hooked by the Varsity pens several years. Then I jumped to a Lamay Safari, ok but not great. Last week I treated myself to my first truly vintage FP, a Schaeffer Balance from the 30's. The Balance is a pretty substantial pen and the medium nib lays down a nice line. Unfortunately, I...
There are so many Kimber models that you can get one that is eye candy or one that is combat ready and built for wet work but which ever you chose you can expect out of the box accuracy that is probably unrivaled. The only drawback of the shorter barrelled Kimbers is putting them back together...
On Christmas morning in 1973 I found a rectangular box underneath our Chrisrmas tree. My heart jumped when I tore back the paper revealing the brown and white box with "Remington" printed on the top. The box contained my first shotgun, a 20 guage 870 Wingmaster with a 28" vent rib barrel...
I believe there is already a fairly long thread about the remake on the FL. I agree, no one should touch these movies and no one will be able to come close to the chemistry between Powell and Loye. With Depp we are going to see Captn. Jack Sparrow in a fedora but it could be worse. They could...
Not sure how I feel about the finale. They but nice bows on all of the story lines that have been so good this season. After last weeks episode I thought the finale was really disappointing.
I was really disappointed by the context of the sex and violence in Season 1 but Season 2 seems to have more of a balance. Still plenty of sex and violence but the story is better.
I have to agree. The acting, the script and the cinematography: absolutely perfect. I was not a fan of the first season but every episode in season II has been better than the pervious week. Wow!
As an upside down leftie I have always had a problem smearing what I write no matter what I write with. The only instrument I really don't have a problem with is the Pilot "Varsity" pens. I would like to find a vintage pen that produces a similar line. I am partial to the older Parker 75's but...
Ah, yes. The hunter as assassian. Very sad. That being said, I do have a couple of non-wood guns (Rem 700KS Mountain Rifle with a Kevlar stock and a Beretta 390 Semi-auto) for environments that are too hard on really old (and valuable) guns.
Alex, you mentioned your grandfather's Parker...
Dawn on November 15th found me sitting in the Huron National Forrest with an early (1927) 7MM Griffin and Howe Sporter across my lap. Hunting, especially deer hunting, with a vintage firearm is truly special. Plenty of time to stare at the ruifle and run my hands over the stock and 1903...
If anyone is interested I have an old pair of Vasque boots purchased in 1978 (with the original red laces) that I no longer wear and would sell. I believe they are 11-1/2 or 12. Send me a PM if interested.
