    Dita Von Teese

What I wouldn't do to have size 6 feet like hers! She mentioned in her last book that she would absolutely hate having large feet, and I nearly started crying with envy! (Mine are a size 8, but I'm on the petite side).

I am seriously considering giving up my cell phone

When I did CPR-C training, the firefighter who conducted the lessons told us that in an emergency, a landline can be traced by a 911 operator in seconds, but a cellphone can only be traced to a general location. Your landline quite literally becomes your lifeline if you are alone and unable to...

    Hair under winter hat

Wool and fur berets are the best - It also helps, like rue refers to, to have a hairstyle that works with a hat. Most 30s, 40s and 50s hairstyles when worn down lie close to the head at the top-back, and fan out toward the bottom. Personally, my biggest issue is getting my pompadour to stay...

Comments You Get When You Dress Vintage

OT: I always thought of that hairstyle as the "Tyra Banks look" lol

    Dita Von Teese

All those tips were published in Burlesque and the Art of the Teese. They work, if you take them seriously! Also, I love what Dita says here: In the Golden Era, being meticulous about one's appearance didn't make others think you were vain, but this mindset is very prevalent these days...

Web Pages throughout the 20th Century

That gave me a good chuckle :)

What is the best etiquette book for the modern/21st century woman?

It is a cute read. Some of it is definitely just for fun (like stocking the fridge with Veuve Clicquot and receiving baubles from Van Cleef & Arpels on the breakfast tray) but there are some good, down to earth tips too :)

    Letters, Anyone?

Sheeplady, I like to send thank-you notes too. Those I handwrite. I don't send actual letters, typed or handwritten, though - I prefer phone calls. I send out enough typed letters for work to flood over into my personal life, I suppose!

The Holiday Party: Rude or Inept Guests?

I'm glad everybody liked my suggestion :) This is what we try to do too, because although we hate when people are disrespectful to their host's belongings, we hate it just as much when a host is rude to their guests (after all, they invited them!) "Whoops, I forgot to put a coaster here" or...

What is the best etiquette book for the modern/21st century woman?

I loved Are You a Jackie or a Marilyn? by Pamela Keogh.

    My Week With Marilyn (2011)

Agreed - 20 seconds was all I needed to retch. That's a good analogy! :)

The Holiday Party: Rude or Inept Guests?

My aunt is very good friends with the art dealers/collectors who currently live in the Studio Building in Toronto (for anyone who knows who the Group of Seven are.) They have the most gorgeous, rare, and usually very expensive things. They also give parties, and their guests, knowing the...

What do you NOT Want for Christmas?

I tend to agree with this. I buy gifts for my immediate family and the man in my life, because to be honest, those are the only people I care to buy gifts for. I would much rather give and receive truly thoughtful gifts, rather than a lot of superflous tat they/I will never benefit from (Re...

Her vocabulary was as bad as, like, whatever.

This is my favourite, because it's completely true: "4. From the attic came an unearthly howl. The whole scene had an eerie, surreal quality, like when you’re on vacation in another city and Jeopardy comes on at 7:00 p.m. instead of 7:30."

    Could these work for vintage?

The pair of pants you have will be perfect - I speak from experience. I made a pair in the exact same style from KwikSew 2990 (out of print) after Super Kawaii Mama's recommendation. So comfortable and easy to make, and the possibilities in terms of fabric and buttons are endless. Although...

    Rue's Movie Picks

Anyone who has seen Fred MacMurray trying to pull off calling Babs Stanwyck "baby" can probably handle a little stiffness lol

    My Week With Marilyn (2011)

Truthfully, no. But to be fair, a big reason for that is because she's portraying Marilyn. It's been said so many times before, but nobody can copy her. It also doesn't help that Michelle's face is so different from Marilyn's - Unlike with Kenneth Branagh as Olivier, there was no moment with...

Overdue for a trim and getting nervous...

I know most will shudder at the idea of cutting their own hair, but don't completely rule it out. There is a lot of truth in the saying "If you want something done right, do it yourself." :)

What makeup are you wearing today?

Describing "O" will make it sound bizarre, but trust me, it's very cool lol It's a red base, but has a gold frost overtop, so it comes out looking almost like topaz. As for the site, I have a whole horde of MAC stores near me, so I'm able to compare the pictures on the site to the actual...

What do you NOT Want for Christmas?

Soap. All my life, people have bought me scented, coloured, foamy, flower shaped, or otherwise whimsical soaps. Some of them I have enjoyed, many of them I have never opened and gave away. Still others I have tried and hated (though the thought was nice). As it stands, I have so many I...
