Based on the book by Colin Clark, an uncredited director's assistant who worked on the set of The Prince and the Showgirl in 1956.

It's gotten good reviews - about 3.5 stars - in the major papers. Michelle Williams does a pretty accurate impersonation, with the style and fit of her costumes and the slightly tousled hair. As a Marilyn fan, I can't resist seeing this movie - Anyone else going to catch it?

I read the first Colin Clark book - The Prince, the Showgirl and Me and greatly enjoyed it. I didn't bother with the follow-up book as I question his account of this alleged week with Marilyn - saying he had a brief fling with her - I mean, come on, seriously.......

Still it seems that Michelle Williams has done possibly the best job of portraying Marilyn although one reviewer commented that Michelle and any other actor have an impossible job as Marilyn's stillettos are too big to fill.

We shall see!

I saw the movie on Saturday. Michelle did an admirable job, considering she faced the insurmountable task of portraying Marilyn. She looked quite good, the costumes were accurate, and she had the same breathless voice.

Kenneth Branagh was amazing as Olivier. He even looked like him in make-up! The actors portraying Arthur Miller, Milton Greene, and Paula Strasberg were great too (particularly Strasberg.)

Personally, I don't entirely buy the author's story, but the movie itself was done excellently. :) I recommend seeing it for sure.

There has been so much hype over Michelle Williams in this role - how she tied a belt to her knees to get Marilyn's walk down, studying her voice, etc., - were you able to watch it without thinking, "oh there's Michelle Williams playing Marilyn Monroe"?

Looking forward to seeing it when it comes to town here.

Truthfully, no. But to be fair, a big reason for that is because she's portraying Marilyn. It's been said so many times before, but nobody can copy her. It also doesn't help that Michelle's face is so different from Marilyn's - Unlike with Kenneth Branagh as Olivier, there was no moment with her where I thought "wow - it could have been Marilyn herself!"

It's clear that Michelle made a very careful study of her role, and you have to applaud her for that. It was a much better effect than, say, Gwen Stefani portraying Jean Harlow.

I'm going to see it on Friday or Saturday with my girlfriend using the free cinema tickets we have from when our film was cut short in August by the riots. :p The trailers look promising.

Gwen Stefani as Jean Harlow (on screen for maybe 20-seconds) in "The Aviator" was a very poor choice by someone who only equated Harlow with platinum hair or the name "Gwen Stefani" with more box office sales.

I saw Kenneth Brannagh being interviewed on the BBC the other week regarding his role as Olivier - apparently they gave him a prosthetic chin - I've looked at photos/scenes from the movie and his make-up is superb.

Although on a separate note I think Michael Fassbender looks a lot like a young Olivier.....

Found this review on vivandlarry.com: http://www.vivandlarry.com/reviews/my-90-minutes-with-michelle-williams-and-kenneth-branagh/

She's relentless in her criticism compared to us. She attacks the film for it's superficial portrayals of all the characters, and while I agree with her on that score, I don't believe the film was meant to go any deeper into them - Colin Clark's books sure weren't! However, it's an articulate and well written review and worth reading.
