Eastman Purchasing: Direct from UK, or Through HPA?

In May, I purchased an Eastman .50-Cal A-2 thru HPA and did the math (£ vs $, plus shipping, customs, etc) and it was pretty much the same price; to my calculations (which, to be honest are thorough but certainly not infallible) there was a slight edge going through HPA. Charles was very...

My new Alexander Half Belt, how does the size look?

The back looks ok but IMHO the front length and the sleeves seem too short. If it were me, I'd return it and add about 1.5". Of course, "proper" fit is all a matter of personal taste.

Some perspective on leather jacket pricing?

I saw a "G-1 Flight Jacket" (no fur collar!) on the Bill's Khakis website selling for $1,695!!! I wonder how many they've sold (and to whom?!?!).

Help with my next jacket purchase

I've found that the Schott 689H runs on the small size (I had to size up one size for a comfortable fit). Shortish-sleeves IMHO. The 36 might fit you. Good quality and excellent workmanship. I got mine afew years ago for $450 in NYC; to be honest, I wouldn't have bought it if it were $750...

    My Norshor leather NS2

For us blokes in the States, a very good option for a premium leather jacket without the hassles or concerns over customs, import duty, VAT, international shipping, currency conversions, etc.

    Quality non-leather outerwear brands?

LW makes a nice long leather trench (something the Baron would've probably been proud to wear).

    Famous People in Flight Jackets

Holden's brother, Robert Beedle, was a Navy pilot who was killed in WWII. As a small tribute to his brother, during filming of "The Bridges at Toko-Ri", Holden insisted on actually "piloting" the F-9F Panther jet, maneuvering the aircraft across the flight deck during close-up scenes while...

    Full Grain v. Top Grain

Incidentally, I own A-2's from LW, ELC, Goodwear and BK and love 'em all. Each jacket has it's own unique qualities that I admire and very high quality workmanship that I value as a consumer. I am totally happy with my collection of leather jackets as well as being a big fan of TFL :-)

    Full Grain v. Top Grain

There is also that VERY top secret piece of info that no manufacturer will probably ever divulge: profit margin. If maker A, B and C all charge about the same for their premium jackets but source their hides from different tanneries (tannery 1, 2 and 3) and they are produced (sewn) in country X...

    Identifying A-1 Jacket

I used to own one of these jackets; bought it direct from The Cockpit store in NYC (sold it afew years later). It was made of a nice grainy, lightweight russet leather (lambskin, if I'm not mistaken). Definitely a limited edition; mine was number of 357 of ??? (Don't remember the total number...

    Prisoner Pants

Just don't wear an orange jump-suit! In the US many prisons have their inmates wear orange scrubs or a one-piece jump suit. I know someone who was doing dirty work at a boatyard wearing a surplus German Air Force orange flightsuit and someone called the local police (who promptly rolled up...

    My Real McCoys A-2

If anyone visits NYC, there's a new Real McCoys retail store on Greene street in SOHO. It was a good experience to see and feel the jackets "in the flesh".
