Not bad, TXFlyGuy! Does the jacket have one inside pocket or two? Do the photos represent the true brown shade of the leather? Color (particularly brown) can vary greatly in photos depending on lighting conditions.
Enjoy your jacket!
Just checked their website; they list 2 different A-2 jackets, number 6020 and 6014, with the exact same description and the same price. I wonder what the difference is?
Tempted to order one as a daily "beater".
TXFlyGuy, do you know which specific A-2 you ordered, the 6014 or the 6020?
A wide cuff opening can also give the impression of a short sleeve length. The right cuff looks a bit wide (unlike cafe racer zip cuffs that are snug) showing more wrist/hand then some would prefer. It's all a matter of personal preference. I like a longer sleeve myself. It is a nice looking jacket.
If one is interested in a specific contract repro M-422a, check out Bill Kelso. They do the Willis and Geiger and the Gordon & Ferguson model M-422 jackets.
Yes Smithy, you're right; I remember the posts re the Aero FQHH A-2 (it looked fantastic!). But I thought Aero no longer entertained the notion of constructing an A-2 from FQHH?
I agree that a nice 2.5-3.0 oz mid-weight HH is ideal for an A-2. But when the Zombie Apocalypse starts, I think I'll...
Probably the closest to a FQHH A-2 that's readily available today is the heavy duty russet HH used by Lost Worlds. The jacket doesn't drape, it slowly conforms and molds to your shape and movements until it fits like a suit of leather armor. Really amazing hide!
US Wings is also offering kangaroo hide jackets, billed as "limited editions", in the A-2 and the Indy styles. They retail for $849US.
Their website states:
"Limited Edition – Back By Popular Demand! We last manufactured a kangaroo A-2 more than 10 years ago, but we’re once again offering the...
I'm fairly certain that his A-2 is from The Cockpit; I have one myself and it's decent quality (seal brown goatskin, one-piece back, cotton lining, no hand-warmer pockets).
The guy is 70+ years old and probably just wants a comfortable, loose fitting, waist-length leather jacket.
I'm a 46 long in a suit and my Eastman M-422a was a 46 long which fit me "military snug". I now have a BK M-422 in size 48 which fits perfectly. Maybe the pattern in general is a bit on the small size in regard to the tagged size?
I have two jackets from The Cockpit in their "vintage, washed goatskin" hide, an Oil Driller half-belt and a vintage G-1. Fabulous leather with heavy pebbling as well as varying (large and small) areas of grain, wrinkling and burnished patina. Looks and feels exactly like 40-50 year old goatskin...
In the past year or two, GW, BK, US Authentic, LW, ELC and now Langlitz have all raised prices. An increase in the cost (and limited supply?) of the raw materials (leather) must affect all the manufacturers in some way.
Great looking jacket! It's believe it's based on the jacket worn by Bruce Willis in "Surrogates" (I may have to watch the film just to check out the jacket).
BK certainly make a quality jacket and this one looks like a winner.
