I'd agree with your comments there about Lewis Leathers, James. They do seem to be looking at options, and being a small company they should be pretty flexible.
How are you liking the Lightening?
Just back from London, and dropped in on the Lewis Leathers showroom on Chilworth Street.
If you're going to visit, it's not that readily apparent where the shop is. They're currently in the basement of number 26 (from memory), and they aren't signed. I found them by spotting leather jackets...
I think that an update is overdue.
I spoke to Amanda after the jacket arrived, and she advised wearing it a few times before making any decisions. She said that Aero would be willing to take it in a bit if need be.
Anyway, the weather's cooled down a bit, and I can now wear it without...
Aero's Cordovan is a dark red / burgundy / purple, depending on the light. I really like the colour.
I got a jacket earlier this year in that colour (there's a thread somewhere), and it's only just got cool enough to start wearing it. I've not experienced any colour rubbing off it, but I've...
I've heard people argue that steel toe caps are safer, so I'm not 100% sure either way. Personally, I'd avoid them.
There are some very tasty retro motorcycle boots made by Vendramini. Take a look at their Class Metro and Custom styles.
Unfortunately my favourite style (the Scrambler)...
The problem with steel toe-capped boots on bikes is apparently down to how your foot bends in an accident, and not down to the toe cap deforming. So your toes get pushed into the end of the toe cap, and snip.
The school that I went to recommended that I didn't wear boots with toe caps, and...
Nice boots Rufus! And are they a pair of Sharpeye jeans?
I think that I'm going to have to take a look at the Lewis Leathers shop next time I'm in London.
I'm not sure if I'd want to wear Lewis Leathers, or Aero, as protective gear for biking. I'd be inclined to go along to someone like...
I don't know if they offer button flies, but Old Town's trousers look like they should have them!

If not, they could probably modify a pair especially for you.
The basic design looks like an Aero Hercules, just with a belt, cuff buttons, and a different pocket arrangement.

Barbour did a leather version of their International Jacket a few years back, and there are still a few available, and sometimes at a sale price. For example:

I don't own a bike (yet), but I'm taking a course in how to ride them in a few weeks, so I've been doing a bit of research.
Given a choice, I'd wear a full set of leathers (either one piece or, more likely, zip together), made to measure, and with the best armour I could buy, and ideally...
Feltfan, sorry about being slow to reply. I've been busy and away, and not checked the Lounge for a few weeks.
I think that the jacket's too big for me. It's fine across the shoulders, but too loose through the chest and belly.
Part of the problem is that I've lost 10 to 14 lbs (5 to 7 kg)...
Do any of the custom hat shops make crushable fedoras?
I've looked in a couple of old threads, and no-one's mentioned them. So I'm guessing that the answer's no.
Veering slightly off topic, Ardalanish produces a range of organic tweeds. They're pretty expensive (75 pounds per metre!), but look interesting. I believe that they use undyed wool for the fabric.

Fjallraven Telemark II
I picked up a Fjallraven Telemark II at the end of last week, and have worn it a couple of times since.
The jacket's cut pretty loose, and I possibly could have gone down a size. However it is a shell jacket, and so needs to be big enough to fit over other layers...
I haven't seen a steerhide Aero, but the oil pull leather has a matt finish to it. It's somewhat different to the other hides they use.
Ask the factory for some samples. :)
I've been looking at the Fjallraven jackets in the last week or two, as I wanted something that's waterproof, but not plastic.
Fjallraven have a proprietary material called G1000, which is a waxed polyester cotton blend. According to their website, it's water resistant (showerproof)...
