Rick - thanks for the compliment.
I'll post sizes on Sunday, as I'm going to be away for a couple of days.
Price? Aero have offered my around $350 as a part exchange. The second hand prices seem to be around $350 on this forum, and $450 to $500 on Aero's website. So I was thinking of...
For sale: Aero Leather Hercules in black, front quarter horsehide with a green, quilted rayon lining.
The jacket is size 50, with an extra 2" of length added to the sleeves and body.
The chest size feels smaller than on the label. So would probably suit someone who's 46" to 48" better...
Thanks for the pictures Rufus. The Cordovan horsehide looks stunning, though it doesn't seem to age as rapidly as the Cherry.
Then again, it sounds like Tony treats his jacket a lot rougher. :)
How bad is the colour leakage? Are we talking about a little bit of dye rubbing off on a collar...
Feltfan - I'll edit the original post in an attempt to get the photo up this evening. It seems that the Google / Picasa service doesn't want to play. :(
Rufus - do you have a picture of the Bootlegger? I was wondering how it looked after being worn. However, the colour transfer would put me off.
Here's a picture of my current, black Aero Hercules.
Sorry about the black and white photo, but my camera has a habit of rendering blacks as magenta. :(
I've had the jacket five or six years, although it did spend some time in storage. I haven't had any localised (patchy) colour fading, as...
Thanks. The brown seems to keep a consistent shade, so I suspect that the Cordovan will too.
What I was looking for was something that goes a bit "patchy". The oil pull does, but that's not available in the heavyweight leather, and so does the Cherry.
Tonypaj posted some shots of his very...
After a protracted period, I've finally figured out that I want to buy an Aero Cossack. However, I'm not sure about the colour.
I'm off black at the moment, as it doesn't age in an interesting manner. Seal brown and oil pull are only available in the lighter grades. That leaves cherry (which...
The brown jacket with the red lining is very similar to Aero Leather's Hercules jacket. See here and
here.
I've got one of Aero's, albeit with the zipped, breast pocket deleted, and it's a really nice jacket. The only problem is that I've been to the gym too much, and mine is now too tight...
I haven't seen one of Aero's sheepskin flying jackets, but their horsehide utility jackets are extremely well made.
I've owned three of their jackets to date, and am currently trying to decide on one to buy. Amanda at Aero is extremely helpful.
Glad to hear that you've gone through with it. :)
Did you go for the normal brown, or the oil pull in the end? (I'd have gone for the oil pull personally, but if I get an Aero it'll probably end up in Cherry.)
I'm still trying to figure out what I want. I'm after either a Mariner or (just...
I was right, the Half Belt Deluxe has the bi-swing back with a shoulder panel.
Pictures can be seen here:

I get the impression that the shade of the leather varies with the batch. So (for example) their current supply of oil pull is very dark brown.
Perhaps the solution would be to ask Aero to build your jacket out of the darkest piece of brown heavy horsehide that they have in stock. :)
The...
Tony, many thanks for the pictures. The cherry horsehide ages very nicely.
Bob, the way the colours on the cherry have gone is similar to how the brown oil pull leather looked on Aero's site.
The bi-swing back that Aero uses looks similar to that used on traditional tweed shooting jackets...
Aero had a picture of a used oil pull steerhide jacket on their site a few weeks back. Unfortunately they've sold it, and taken the picture down, but I'm sure that if you asked they could send it to you.
The jacket had acquired a fantastic lived-in look, due to the darkening and lightening of...
Tony, please could you do me an enormous favour, and post a photo of your Barnstormer.
I've been thinking about getting an Aero in Cherry, and was curious to see how the leather ages.
Thanks.
Bob,
I owned two successive Veste de Rallyes some years ago. Unfortunately I filled out a bit, and so traded it in against my current Aero, which is a Hercules.
My first Rallye was in a vintage horsehide, which was lighter than the front quarter that I got my second jacket in...
Patey's Hats (in London) are possibly the last company still making traditional bowler hats:
http://www.pateyhats.com/?cat=11
They can do custom work, but I believe that they stick to top hats, bowlers, peaked caps and equestian hats. So if you fancy that pleated ribbon...
The price is...
