My brother and I are both waiting on Adventurebilt Deluxes from Marc. The orders were place in Spring (April and May respectively, I think) last year, and are slowly making their way through the queue.
He asked for measurements a few weeks ago, so I think that we're getting towards delivery...
That Schott is far cooler in the lived in condition than it would be new. :)
The Belstaff jacket actually has a quilted lining, and I really don't think that you'd want that in California.
Barbour do similar jackets, such as the International. There's even a shorter one, the Flyer, which...
I'm currently in California (LA), and it is a wee bit hot.
If you want to stick with leather then kangaroo might be the way to go. It's thinner than cowhide, but has a similar sort of strength. It gets used by a lot of the racers as a consequence.
You could also get the jacket perforated to...
I'd second Edward's suggestion of speaking to someone like BKS.
Take a look at the suit that I've got on order.
The arm panels are already broken up in a rough approximation of the Boba Fett hoodie. It wouldn't be that hard to replicate the chest and back detail, and I've seen much...
Got Measured
I've been a bit slack with this update, but I went down to BKS in Exmouth about a fortnight ago, and got measured up by Brian (Keith Sampson) who's the company founder.
I went for their touring suit (after swinging backwards and forwards between this and another design), and...
I'd say the the thickness of leather is a bit thinner in the (European) suits that I've seen.
Most mass market motorcycle gear (Alpinestars, Hein Gericke, etc.) use 1 - 1.2 mm leather (2 1/2 to 3 oz.).
The better stuff, in particular CE rated suits, use around a 1.4 mm (3 1/2 oz.)...
The Triumph Bonnevilles are nice - my brother is currently lusting after the Scrambler variant.
The Enfields are nice too. (This picture is on topic because of the vintage dresses. ;))
There seems to be a resurgence of interest in cafe racers. The Ace Cafe in London have put together a...
Since everyone seems to be talking about motorcycles today, I thought that I'd offer a few suggestions for boots.
I'm currently looking at getting a pair of Altberg Clubman Classics. They're a high-legged boot in a retro fashion. They've got a full European CE rating as protective gear...
I've got a double-breasted Cossack that has been used as a motorcycle jacket.
I added snaps to the collar, but they don't close when the jacket is fully buttoned. I've not had problems with the collar flapping when they're not snapped.
If I was doing it again then I'd be tempted to go for...
Nice jacket. :)
Have you seen the Guzzi V7 Cafe Racer? I have a horrible feeling that this post might prove expensive for you.

The last I heard (and that was back in August), Crowtree were going into semi-retirement. The downside with that is that they might not be around to repair or alter garments in the future.
BKS made the leathers worn in the Honda "Power of Dreams" advert, which were a retro style.
I may...
I'll keep you posted.
Belstaff make some retro styled biker jackets, and the ones designed for motorcycling actually feel pretty durable.
It would be worth suggesting to Lewis Leathers that there might be a market for retro-looking high-spec leathers...
I've just put a deposit down for a BKS Leathers suit. They make Aeros look like a bargain.
I think that I'd better explain...
I got into motorcycling last year, and it turns out that my Aero really wouldn't cut in a crash. What you need is a CE-rated one or two piece leather suit...
I've got a double breasted Cossack with buttons, and have had zip-up Aeros before.
The buttons are definitely more tricky to do up than a zip, though zips do take a bit of breaking in.
If you're planning on using the jacket to ride a bike then get a zip front.
If you get a zip, then...
I've got an Aero FQHH jacket with buttons, and I've not broken any fingernails or fingers whilst fastening or unfastening it.
A button-up Bootlegger would look good. Go and order it, then post a picture so that we can admire it. :)
I've got a double breasted, button front Cossack. There are pictures of it elsewhere on the forum, but Aero are very accomodating when it comes to putting together custom designs.
Rufus's button-front Bootlegger sounds a bit like the Aviator jacket. Some pictures at...
Nice jacket Rufus.
I've got a Hercules. It's one of the older models with the quilted rayon lining, two internal pockets, and I deleted the chest pocket.
I've also got a double-breasted Cossack, which would be another option. Incidentally, it's in Cordovan, and hasn't bled, despite being...
