You can find this type of hat band and cord in the traditional bowler or derby made for riding. It was a predecessor to todays harder riding hat with leather (or, these days, sythetic) webbing.
Thank you very much for the information. I find it all quite fascinating. I am going to write to Borsalino and see what they might have to say. I do hope they add some history and other information on their we site when it is up and running. It would be really great to see a link to the...
When I try it gives me Greg Louganis as my closest match and celebrities like Adam Sandler, Sammy Davis Jr. and Gene Kelly. Not unflattering but I don't really see it.
So far I've only been mistaken for jockeys coming off wins at Belmont. On several occasions we've received the royal treament at restaurants in NYC with waitiers asking for autographs - but so far no votes for a Golden Era star... Not many in Hollywood in those years with a true aquiline nose...
Welcome starla. Great dress! And great state by the way. We try to get up to Grafton or Peru as often as we can for cross-country skiiing and great food and drinks at the Old Tavern among others...
There were so many wonderful cars produced in the '30 and '40s, many shown here and not a few I would love to drive/own. However, I think my favourites were produced in the late '50s and early '60s. Here is a 1950 Maserati 450S from the Concours in West Plam Beach.
Never did find that memory stick, but here are a few I had on my old Zip disks...
Man in Green Suit, 1920, Edouard Halouze
Intellectual Aremenians au Cafe, 1939, Edgar Chahine
George M Cohan, Al Frueh
Franklin P Adams, Will Cotton
Eddie Cantor, Frederick J. Garner...
Without much opportunity to wear one I have not taken the pluncge and purchased a new cowboy hat. Growing up, on a ski trip to Vail just after breking my leg at one of out East Coast mountiains, the hotel manager took charge of my entertainment in order to keep me out of sight of the other...
Jovan - in general I do like some heavier cashmere blend fabrics and many would make a good suit. Unfortunately, I am not familiar with the fabrics at Magnoli. Similar weight fabrics can drape quite differently and have a very different hand / finish. One of my favourite suits was made while...
Apparently this is what I looked like when I was a bit younger.
These days when friends or other guests see the Egan print (my avatar) hanging on my wall they ask whether it is another portrait / caricature...
So far my plans are to stick pretty close to the original Jazzman. Being rather short with a narrow face and long neck, I usually stick with smaller brims and low crowns. The one change I have asked for was a slightly lower crown. This will still be considerably higher than most of my hats...
Drifting a bit :offtopic:
Combining an interest in traditional shooting attire and sporting clays (or, in my case skeet). I would recommend the Vintagers, Order of Edwardian Gunners, they hold sporting clays and other side by side shotgun sporting events.

Rodney - Welcome. Glad you've joined us.
FL was the first forum I joined after some very unpleasant exchanges in the Compuserve fora many years ago. I was quite happy to find a group of men and woman to politely discuss our mutual interests - hats, classic style, usw.
You are quite right. Definitely a book I have and will continue to read in the library - that's how I first found it.
Just one more thing to covet... Like some of my collection, where I can't find an original within my budget, I have found some sellers who have good quality reproductions /...
Excellent Hat! I really like your variation on the Jazzman theme. It look greats on you too.
Now you've really got me jonesing for my new AF Jazzman variant... I've only just returned the conformer to Art.
Tango Yankee - Thank you for the thread and for sharing that letter with us. What a great idea. I don't really have the opportunity to visit Ohio these days, but after reading about and seeing the shop, and the hats, I think it may be worth a trip just to support a wonderful craftsman and...
