Getting to be a bit :offtopic:
I have always been interested in Eastern textiles and costume. I have to say that some of the old persian, turkish and japanese (among others) loosley fitted layers of fine fabrics seen on their ruling classes look extremely comfortable and decadent. Some of...
I haven't had much luck finding anything about the Berber or Tuareg methods of tying the turban. The closest I have found is the article below.

The sikh methods of tying a turban are quite different. I...
Hear, hear! I work in a bank serving institutional clients. For client meetings I do need to don my least interesting of suits, but cannot give up my bow tie and pocket scarf, and do wear my fedora whenever it is below fourty degrees outside.
I much prefer my tweeds, blazers and wool...
Brother - do you have a photograph for us? I lived in North Africa for a while and the berbers wore what I knew as a burnoose, but it was simply a hooded cape / cloak.
Lock & Co. do carry some nice smoking caps, but the colors are somwhat limited. I keep hoping to find one of the elaborately embroidered and colorful hats from the late 19th or early 20th century. I just haven't found one in my size. The largest selection of colors and styles for both smoking...
I don't know whether anyone else heard this - but a few years ago, on three or four occasions people whistled the theme song or otherwise made reference to Inspector gadget. What made the comments particularly goofy was it did not matter what type of hat or coat I was wearing - the second movie...

They have a few with bib front (more square that your picture) and detachable collars. I am still looking because the do not carry my size.
There used to be a shop in the...

I look at all of the wonderful clothing and accessories the members of the forum purchase, and at the magazines, TV shows focused on women's fashion and from time to time I have to ask myself - how is it that human society seems to differ so greatly from the rest of the animal...
My experience with ties (well over thirty years now - yes required even in kindergarten) has lead me to a few conclusions. Whatever method you use, test it on the back of your tie. Many dies used for silk are difficult to 'fix' and are not colorfast. Some people send their ties to the dry...
I don't know whether they are still going on, but last year I believe someone started weekly discussions of the Viscious Circle at the Algonquin's Round Table. I don't get home as much as I used to so I miss out on so many wonderful events...
Generally, few comment - I find myself asking whether some or our employees even notice these things. Those comments I do receive have been positive though sometime qualified with a statement about not being able to pull it off, or not comfortable taking the leap.
I do receive a bit of good...
Lauren - This is great. Thank you for the information! The Times on microfiche sounds great, and never would have occurred to me. I also did a search on Amazon and found a book written specifically about Edwardian men's fashion. I really enjoy both the research and putting together the...
It just occurred to me that some of my favourite music might be considered an mix of genres, jazz and opera. Gershwin's Porgy and Bess requires voices trained for opera, but the music is decidedly not opera. I love both vocal jazz and opera, and Gershwin blends the two incredibly well.
