Looks great on you. There is something about the crinkle
of a fresh dent on a vintage Stetson...
Mouse gray, eh? I wouldn't have
come up with that one. Wouldn't even use the word-
those around me either start hunting or screaming when
the word is used, depending on the number of legs...
Ouch. The Vulcain Cricket has a button next
to the main winder (you can see it in the picture)
you can use to turn off the alarm. It's not so useful
for turning off the alarm before it sounds because it's
easy to reset the button inadvertently when your wrist
is bent. But once it sounds...
Ouch. Didn't notice it was a live auction.
PLEASE don't post live auctions. My apologies
to anyone who planned to bid on this auction
for further drawing attention to it. I hope the
bartenders remove the link soon.
It was a terrible listing by a clueless seller. We still don't know the
size of either hat. Man, if I could find a Dunlap 20 from those
days in my size I'd pay a LOT more than $10.
Sold
Sorry rtravler and anyone else interested,
The member who PMed me first got this one.
The large, rare, and very vintage Mallory homburg
is still available:

Ouch! Don't put a new sweatband in it unless you have to
because the old one is so worn and dry it is no longer soft.
Those old sweatbands were made of quality leather and had
some cool designs on them. Keep it like your grandfather had it!
There are many threads on this forum regarding...
Borsalino certainly used sewn-in silk through the 50s, maybe later.
They certainly used unreeded sweats into the 70s (check out that
Western Borsalino I posted recently).
I think liners in Borsalinos were extremely variable.
Certainly there were special liners just for individual...
Congrats. Cavanagh hats are a good thing and every hat
enthusiast should have one (or more).
I was amused by the listing. The seller stole information from
this forum, but got it wrong:
"...welded "Cavanagh Edge" brim treatment shown here in Photo #7, allowing a softer, thinner felt...
Huh? I do it all the time. So do many others on this site.
You can look up the many threads on this subject at your leisure.
I'd go so far as to say that many hats benefit from the rain,
often returning "remembered" block shape and giving a mild
cleaning to the hat.
Fur dress hats are...

Really interesting hat.
Interesting also to consider what is formal.
The setting of the picture Mr. Lucky found, a wartime
cooking class, would not immediately seem to us to
be a formal setting...
There is at least one quite long thread about the
Spanish Civil War/Revolution here on the Lounge
under WWII:

Let me correct one point-
by no means were all Lincoln Brigade members people who
believed in the cause of socialism. Some...
