A bit late to the reply, but that hat was picked up by me.
Congrats. Cavanagh hats are a good thing and every hat
enthusiast should have one (or more).

I was amused by the listing. The seller stole information from
this forum, but got it wrong:

"...welded "Cavanagh Edge" brim treatment shown here in Photo #7, allowing a softer, thinner felt to be used without the brim becoming floppy or weakened by stitching".

"Welded", of course, is an odd word choice. But there are two really incorrect
assertions. Cavanagh didn't use thinner, softer felt, at least in the
period of that hat (not at all in my limited experience), they used
relatively thick, dense felt ("soft" is admittedly relative). In another
part of the listing, the seller says it's "medium" weight felt. Second, of
course, the Cavanagh Edge required stitching, so it's not accurate
to say that this edge saved the hat from "weakening by stitching".
We could also quibble about whether the felt consists of, as asserted,
"beaver", or if just might have other fur...

All of which is to criticize the listing, not the hat.

That's closer to the truth than the seller who sells mostly women's hats, and states that bound edges are Cavanagh edges.:eusa_doh:

It's not exactly an eBay defeat, but my girlfriend and I were at the local Bookman's here last night and came across a black Akubra Pastoralist; unfortunately for me, between the Super Fino Montecristi I'm waiting for and the fact that the hat was Medium, I had to let it go. I hope someone out there finds it and appreciates a good hat.

I had the high bid on that one for a while. Surprised it went so far with how few viewers it had. It's a factory store one, so it probably has the date marked.

Probably not the best title and the pictures could have been better. I'd like to see better shots of it.

+ it's really thin-ribboned, quite small, & black. For me, the best style & felt can't overcome the drawback of black.

I picked up the stretcher for about the price of a clean and reblock at Otimo with shipping. I plan to post results in one of the threads dealing with stretching or stretchers
