I have come to the same conclusion. Sigh. Unless you're a
hat maker, it's just gonna be what it's gonna be.
Still, you have to marvel at the people who weave those things.
Interesting. And there I thought they were
electrical quack medicine devices.
Thanks.
And again, a cool lamp. That tiny light at the bottom
is a great feature- find your lamp in a dark room.
Looks like my gray Stetson 3x, except for the plastic in the
liner, the flourish in the bow, and the olive-ness. I'm guessing
the "exchange club" was a promotion at the store- probably took
old fedoras and gave a trade-in or something.
Mine is a real go-to hat. Just the right amount of...
Are we talking about the Carli The Hatter hat?
Looks like a reeded sweatband to me.
The pictures are grainy, but it appears to be a fine
hat as-is. Fold a few dollar bills under the sweatband,
give it a brushing, and enjoy it.
I find it can be useful to remind such people that there
are far worse practices. Mind you, I have some of them, too.
But I'm sure you can think of people who collect far more
expensive or cumbersome items or who have made far worse
choices in their appearance or who have far less...
Thanks for the clarification, barrowjh. I was, of course,
quoting the fedora store site. I agree it's a very fine factory hat!
Bakers44, VERY nice find!
Sigh. I was tempted to see him when he played
here in the deco Paramount Theatre. But then I
figured out how many hats I could buy for the
overpriced tickets. Yeah, his manager absconded
with all of his money, but gee...
Anyway, I bet it was a great show, regardless
of his hat...
Is $320 the sale price?
It's a very nice looking hat and I don't mean to knock it,
but how could it be better than a custom from Art?
"...the BEST men's dress hat made in America". Really?
I'd love to know more about why these hats are so good.
Ouch. That fedora looks like a modern factory hat.
I want to see reverse taper, not rounded edges on
that crown, along with a nice, crinkly handmade dent.
Wow, what a great reward. I look forward to all those photos.
You have a tremendous jacket collection.
This jacket in particular has probably convinced me to
get a goat jacket from Aero. Hadn't planned to before.
Someday.
Jan,
On Flickr, if you click on "All Sizes" and then
choose a size, you get a dialog box with a link
you can use to display your pictures within your
post. That way we wouldn't have to click all
those links, with a new window for each image.
Thanks!
Ah, I see the links you...
That is a cool sweatband. But we all have to do it
to one hat or another. I have a few cool, deteriorating
sweatbands in bags somewhere. No idea if I'll ever do
anything with them. I think Art Fawcett used to keep
old sweatbands in good condition to match to hats for
restoration...
Congrats on the find (and for not ascribing it to superstitious beliefs).
I am a huge fan of the way those old sweatbands look (and for that
matter how they perform). But that sweatband is shot. It also appears
to be unreeded, which means it'd be pretty tough to sew back on
or even to...
