I love this site for Golden Era Slang (and not just American like it's title suggests): The Historical Dictionary of American Slang.
One of my favourites is "cast an eyeball" for "look around" lol
What was visible was my trenchcoat, black stockings, and high heeled shoes. You're on the right track - Muslim women are supposed to dress modestly, so as not to show legs, skin, or body shape. It is, or at least should have been, abundantly apparent that I am *not* Muslim (or for that matter...

That's a very accurate response - After all, wearing scarves to cover your hairstyle was commonplace in American culture (I'm saying American because of my geographical location) until about the 1980's, I would guess. Most Americans or people familiar with American culture know wearing a scarf...
Say no more. He broke my heart when he didn't show up to the Toronto Jazz Festival this year like he usually does, but I probably wouldn't have found anyone who had the time nor the inclination to go with me anyway, so I understand.
That's the reason I love the Lounge, right there - Nowhere...
Dontcha know? We like it around here when old threads are bumped ;)
I have this problem too - It can get annoying. One solution is to use much smaller rollers on those sections when you set them. Another quick and surprisingly durable fix is to curl them with a flatiron. The way the...
I had a very interesting experience today involving someone else's take on my vintage look. I wonder if any of you ladies have ever run into this:
It was damp and foggy this morning, so as usual, I wore my scarf to cover my hair, Audrey Hepburn style, while waiting for my train. A young woman...
My hair is past my shoulders, and to set it I use 1 3/4" rollers, which are quite large. I find that even if it it overset (comes out tighter than I wanted) the curls are big enough that I can brush them out easily. The curls will come out smoother with larger rollers, too.
The only problem...
My parents gave up cable a good 9 years ago, and I didn't get it for myself when I moved out. Like others have said, the only reason I would want cable would be to have TCM, but I have a very large collection of those movies myself and can easily obtain more (besides, my aunt has cable, so if...
The fabulous Rue tried out the cut and got some noteworthy results :) She posted the pictures here (If you'd like to re-post, Rue, then please do!)
I'm pretty sure most everyone here who has tried the cut was afraid of that at first (even I was!) It's really very difficult to mess up...
That set is perfection itself! Like others have mentioned, I am so jealous of your smooth curls. Mine come out like that right after I've brushed them into submission, but they soon get *really* curly again.
PS, the lipstick thing happens to me too in photos lol
Wow, I'm so happy you...
It's pretty impossible not to... lol
I always answer my friends and familys' calls with "Talk to me" :p I never abruptly hang up, though, its always either "I'll call you back" (If I have to go that second) or "Buh-bye!"
