I have only one more jacket that I "need" (and will probably ebay it anyway), which makes me feel good. It's nice to be "normal" in at least one area.
P.S. I sort of disagree though. My friend said something relevant years ago: Any man can afford one "passion." He might not be able to afford...
This jacket is no stranger to this board. If anyone hasn't seen it, here's a link:

The jacket was delivered in June, I think, and it was too warm to wear until the weather...
That's a feeling you can't get from a larger, ultimately impersonal company - no matter how nice the jacket is. And (I don't want to make you sob and cry but) if you're like me, you feel it a little every time you wear or even look at it.
I'm nuts about JL and Alan. If I lived in San Francisco, I don't want to even think about it. I have the same hide and love it. It's funny because Alan touted me off the nickel zips I originally ordered in favor antique brass instead. Maybe the rust knits I used were the clincher. P.S...
I hate to sound like a broken record, but you can get almost anything (though not a replica A2) from Johnson Leather and have it fitted to your own bod before it's built. As a local used car legend, Cal Worthington, used to say, "It takes the worry out of the deal."
To me, given your location, I'd say a custom-fitted jacket from Johnson Leathers in San Francisco is a no-brainer. Some people are put off because they don't like the jackets on his lousy website. Take my word (and others on FL) for it, Alan can make you *anything* you want. If you want some...
I don't pretend to be any kind of authority, but I did have an experience that might apply. The first motorcycle jacket I got was a Vanson Teton (Firenze) that came with a nickel two way main zipper. I ordered on the phone from Vanson after speaking to Kim (the owner's wife/business partner)...
I like buttons (along with two-way zippers on longer jackets) except I'm a little paranoid about the the thread failing somehow and then being stuck for some pricy redo. I scored a nice A1 on ebay; but every time I engage or disengage a button, I'm thinking "Don't rip it off."
Updated info. The talc didn't work so great and I no longer would recommend it. I just treated the squeaky A1 in question with a kit I got on Amazon for $10. It was a small bottle of Lexol cleaner and one Lexol leather conditioner. It took away a lot of the squeak, but it's still there a little bit.
IXL turned me on to a Patagonia Nanopuff jacket. It hardly has any bulk and is really warm. The leather jacket easily slides on over it (or some might prefer just the vest). It's theoretically for mountain climbers so warmth isn't just an afterthought. P.S. I have a merino lining and it...
I've dealt with this company and I like them. It's fun to build your own belt (like a custom jacket).

If you want it custom made to measure (and don't mind spending for some extra shipping): Alan sends you a new jacket in the same basic style you want. That jacket might suit you perfectly and you're done. Otherwise, you take some pix of yourself wearing it, email them to Allen, and then you...
Me too. I really like berry knits with seal brown. I've never thought about the olive color, but I think it looks pretty good too. The deeper green I could live without.
I bought a GB Civil A-2 on ebay that I'm going to back up on ebay in the next few whiles. It has a zip out Thinsulate inner jacket and is really warm. I'm usually a 42 and the GB jacket is a 40. This jackets fits well, but only with the inner jacket (including sleeves) zipped in and filling...
I'm a baseball purist. I don't like the whole wild card thang. What's the point of winning the pennant if some team that gets hot at the end of the year takes the best three of five or whatever? They've always said that games in April count like those in September, but I don't think that's...
It all comes down to a matter of taste, but I think what you chose is very very nice. I didn't look at prices but I take it that they are expensive. I'm glad you went for the best. You deserve it. That's my philosophy anyway. Assuming I can afford it, why should Brad Pitt have a nicer...
