It seems like people are always commenting about something and I think people might be exceptionally outgoing in Southern California. There's so much strangeness here non-stop that people have their minds blown which makes them a little looser (maybe). If a girl compliments my jacket (or...
In the next day or so, I'll be deciding between that and a "grainy" naked black leather swatch that Allan is sending me. I gotta admit, I'm leaning Chromexel. If there's one thing that will make me change my mind, it will be that it's almost too handsome. I sorta like to fly under the radar...
I'm curious because I'm 9/16 of an inch from finalizing a jacket with Allen at Johnson Leather and that same Black Chromexel (shaved down a bit) is one of the two finalists along with black naked cowhide. I'm not that into how it "ages" quickly. If I do go Chromexel it's because I like the...
I'm just reporting that Allen at JL said he was sending me a sample of naked leather that had more grain than usual. I'm currently thinking I might go black chromexel anyway. How much less warm than naked leather can it be? I learned here on FL that they can make the leather thinner. So if I...
This article, from among the others by Fred on this string, puts the kibosh on that, I think.

Thank you. Very informative. I really went to school on you regarding chromexel. I loove the way that, even thought it's black, it has a kind of luminescence.
I've definitely been rubbing and testing. It definitely rubs off. more with hard pressure and very light colors. I'm wondering, real world, if I can't just avoid rubbing it on very light fabric because it really isn't a problem unless there's a fair amount of pressure.
I'm probably a "weather wimp." Southern California can do that to you. Anyway, when it gets much around 60 (and right now it's 54), I'm cold. It's one thing when you're walking around, but sitting on a bike and going 40mph or whatever can get cold. I'm retired now and pretty much use my Vespa...
When you're a hardened veteran of this particular interest on Fedora Lounge (FL to some), you'll probably know that means Johnson Leather in San Francisco. Don't go by their website. Allan, the owner, can make about any style you want (but not in every leather). He likes the website as is and...
I hope I'm not being a pest. I'm in the final stages of commissioning something at JL that, if all else fails, I can at least say reflects my preferences. I guess I'm a person who puts more emphasis on the design of a jacket and less on the hide. I didn't even know what "grainy leather"...
Thanks for caring. I actually have a Nanopuff that I got at your suggestion. I just want a nice, real warm leather jacket that I might occasionally use on the bike when I'm going someplace on a colder day and don't want to wear my armored Teton with two layers underneath, which makes me look...
Actually I have a Vespa and used to ride a Triumph Bonneville and before that a BSA (Beezer) 350. I call everything a motorbike, just like some people call everything a "scoot." I agree I wouldn't feel comfortable if I wasn't wearing something with some heft while riding. That said, if I...
I probably should have said that a motorbike was involved. Thicker naked cowhide seems the ticket. I don't ride in the rain or if rain is predicted and thick HH is not a possibility, only 2 ounces. I was originally thinking Chromexel black (which looks really fantastic with a kind of glow to...
Supposing, for the sake of argument, that one was using a warm lining like alpaca. Would a jacket with 4oz leather be warmer than the same jacket with the same lining using 2oz?
Does the A1 jacket, like the A2, by definition have a "military fit" with higher armholes etc. where one is commonly advised to order one size up if they want a relaxed fit with easy freedom of motion in the shoulders?
Between the satin quilted and the cord, which did you prefer and why. Also, since it's obviously a warm jacket, it's fair to assume that the quilted and the cord are both "warm" linings that complement the shearling?
Some of the Aero jackets with sheepskin (like the Longshoreman) have cord lining in the arms. Why cord as opposed to fleece or quilted or something else? Inquiring minds want to know plus I'm buying something.
