I wouldn't wear it on a safari. I read somewhere that epaulets convey colonialism and are not cool to a lot of people in Africa. Of course, that info may be wrong.
1. Yes, their sizes are very generous. I mail ordered some stuff in Medium and I'd say it fitted me extra-large (or more).
2. Because of #1, Orvis sends me catalogs so I see their jackets. My opinion: a lot of money for what you're getting. Too bad you're on the East Coast; but even if...
I don't mean to be Debbie Downer, but I like that style jacket in denim more than leather. If I wanted a leather jacket with buttons and cuffs, I'd get one: but not one with the stitching where it would be if it was a "jean jacket." Then again, I'm a big fan of traditional and minimalist.
My 2 cents worth: I don't like seeing the jacket only and then having to click for more info. I like a little info up front so I know what I'm looking at.
I have a Lost Worlds A1 I got on ebay (for a good price) and I love having the buttons; but for some reason I'm worried that the buttons give way the same way they do on a shirt and then I'll be in a heap of trouble (AKA deep doo-doo). The rational side of me knows that this couldn't be an...
I guess I'm lucky on that score. I live in Southern California and have never concerned myself with moths and their destruction of clothes. Am I living in a dream world?
If it isn't too late, I like the second from the bottom on the left. It's plaid, which I think is cool and will always be what you picked for yourself, but the hues are subtle and blend in with the hide. I always like a bit understated.
Regarding the pic: I'm too lazy and it's just a Lost Worlds A1, like on their website.
Personally, I like the leather collar. I like what i have, but I like the Waldo Pepper better. I figure if it's good enough for Edith Head and Robert Redford, it's good enough for me.
I love the Waldo Pepper jacket. I picked this avatar way before BK started making them. I settled on a nice (to me) Lost Worlds A1 I got on ebay, which is pretty close. I don't remember exactly; but I think the cost was $275, which I consider a pretty good deal. A2s are nice and all that...
When I got shoes for walking at a New Balance store, the clerk (who seemed knowledgable) said walking shoes are the same as running shoes in that what you want and need is good cushioning. Anyway I got some NB's and an orthotic insole because I pronate. If you're talking more regular shoes...
It's totally amazing how Alan can look at some pix you emailed him and rattle off two inches bigger in chest, one inch lower in back. etc. It sure seems easier than the song and dance people (in the States) go through to order from Aero. I was really surprised when I received my first test...
As one who's posted here regarding my own JL experiences, I'd be curious how you went about it. You didn't mention it, so I assumed you didn't just go in. How did you build the jacket, choose the materials, adjust the fit? Phone? Internet? Test jacket??
Here's a funny show on the subject of elk skin shoelaces:
http://www.otrr.org/jimbo/vicandsade/Vic%20and%20Sade%2044-06-07%20Elkskin%20Shoe%20Laces.mp3
The part about elk starts at 6:00 minutes in.
I don't think that it's a question of a tie implying "dressy" so much as a tie was just regular clothing, like a belt or socks, that you would probably wear whenever you dressed for the street. The other day I saw a photo of young newsboys around 1910? and, while in no way shape or form were...
I wasn't putting you down. That's not my style. I guess the words came out wrong. I was just saying how great JL is and how lucky a person is to be so close. No offense meant.
I've bought two jackets from JL. Alan can make a leather jacket whinny like a weasel. That a person already in San Francisco should ask such a question boggles the mind.
The weird thing is: Aero and Alexander and the top makers aren't that expensive when you compare them to leather jackets in the stores. It blows me away when I look at Nordstrom's or various catalogs like Orvis. Ralph Lauren leather jackets and that ilk are $1500 or some incredible amount and...
