Thank you Eric... I know you are a Playboy enthusiast too. Of the three, the new brownie is the only one with a sweatband imprint matching the 1935 trademark filing. I just added some photos to the old Air Light thread, which has RLK's marvelous white Playboy. It appears that the manufacturing...
The three hats are very similar in their parts, styling and felt feel. All were likely made sometime between 1936 and 1940. Here a few photos with notes on the variations:
Brim width - brown 2 3/16, gray 2 3/8, black 2 1/2
Ribbon width - brown 14/16, gray 13/16, black 15/16
Weight (grams) -...
Recently received from the Facebook marketplace by way of a long time hat friend, this brown Stetson Playboy makes a threesome of examples from the first five years of this iconic Stetson model first launched in the mid 1930s.
This fine old Stetson Playboy was directed to my attention by a good lounge friend and arrived today. I have two other pre-WWII Playboys that I shared some years back on the Side By Side comparison thread. This Air-Lite seems a little earlier and carries a lower LOTXXXX stamp as well... perhaps...
I've been a stranger to this thread... bought two hats in 2020 - a cork boater and a manmade straw "Bancoola" late in the year. But I've already purchased my first hat in 2021. Maybe it will be a better year. Incoming is a Stetson Playboy Air-Lite that was pointed out to me by one of our good...

Wonderful Italians, Stefan.
I have to start my Austrian week late because I don't have many. Here is an early velour purchased from a hat friend. The sweatband and ribbon had been replaced by Art Fawcett but the original fur is like... fur. Perhaps Anton Peschel, perhaps WWI era.
Portis Bancoola... a machine made and shaped straw equivalent. Appears to have never been worn. The references I've found to the model are a handful of advertisements from 1937 and 1938 (all hidden to those without a newspapers.com paid account) - an inexpensive hat starting at 98 cents. The...
It's possible that the glitch is a security concern with my website pages. Perhaps all my posted images will someday be just a memory, like a Buddhist sand mandala...
Thanks for the comments... always appreciated. A very happy holidays to everyone!
For a reason I don't understand, when I incorporate links into forum posts the image is not displayed. If I upload images directly they seem to display fine... assuming you were able to see today's post?
