What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Superb, Alan. In the end it's the felt that counts and the ribbon suits the hat perfectly. Great shape to it and a nice real vintage vibe.

Thank you. I owned a 1950s-60s Peschel velour (below) which had beautiful felt. It was a little large and I traded it to Garrett who I think planned to give it to his Dad. This one reminds me of it in many ways but the felt has that antique moldable hand that is truly sublime. The finish itself has an animal quality - feels like a mink coat.

Stefan, I don't know where to start its a little overwhelming, so many great hats. Your Italian hat parade is a hit!

Wonderful Italians, Stefan.

I have to start my Austrian week late because I don't have many. Here is an early velour purchased from a hat friend. The sweatband and ribbon had been replaced by Art Fawcett but the original fur is like... fur. Perhaps Anton Peschel, perhaps WWI era.

Wow, that is a real furry velour. What a neat hat. Looking forward to the rest of the Austrian hat show.

Very nice, Michael. I like the shape you gave that one.
Thanks Stefan. I had to repair and reinstall the sweat on this one. And gave it something of a reblock and flange. I'm happy with the way it turned out.

Fabulous, Michael.
Thanks.

Great bunch of hats. I think I would have to give up wearing hats if I had your Italian collection. It would be too stressful trying to decide which one to wear every day.

That’s some beater you have there, Michael!
Thanks Snowman. The felt is good, unfortunately the sweat is totally toasted.

A week of intense rain here in Verona, snow all around especially in the hills and mountains of course.
No hats, but raincoats and wool caps.

Today the cold has arrived with the sun and therefore the new homburg for the Homburg & Festivity series.

It is a Borsalino Qualità Extra Extra Superiore, size 6 or 59 cm. or 7 3/8 in US. It arrived in pitiful condition and was resurrected in the hands of Fleur of Penumbra hat.
BoLobbia 1.jpg

The color of the felt is "Palladio" and the ribbon is "Nero", the type is "Gulaela", so says the paper label.
BoLobbia 3.jpg

The felt is of medium consistency very malleable, the combination of contrasting colors is fantastic, especially the two different ribbons.

Happy New Year, if I haven't written it yet and a compliment to all of you for the quality hats shown in these weeks.
