What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

A new cap from down under... Keith Lo Bue's recent sale enticed me to buy this one, made from vintage 1950s Jetson-esque silkscreen printed linen. I should have shaved first.

Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

Would be great if there was a such a setting. I have a number of issues with Chrome, including the visibility of copy below the images on my Astronomy pages. All of the hat images I have posted as links are still there and display fine in other browsers. The great Photobucket disappearance is a...

    Stetson Sweat Stamps/ LOT XXXX

That dated band, assuming original to the hat, is a wonderful marker. Thanks for posting it Jared.

    Stetson Sweat Stamps/ LOT XXXX

Yes, thanks. I still think the $20 Stetson Special Quality referred to in the 1932 was a price/quality designation, along the same lines as Excellent Quality, Standard Quality, Select Quality, 3x, 4X, 5X, 7X Beaver Quality, etc. I think the late 1930s Stetson Select was a model unrelated to the...

ps... I'm sad that many of my linked images are not visible in Google Chrome. My old website images are not https and it seems that Google feels they may be a security risk. I do find the images load correctly in Safari and hopefully other browsers as well. cheers, Alan

Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

Good catch. I hope you'll add this to the Stetson Sweat stamps/ LOTXXXX thread. Many hats posted here and you can see where yours fits in. No hard proof that it is an accurate timeline but I think the rough estimates and sequence are meaningful. I've not seen this stamp appear in hats...

    Stetson Sweat Stamps/ LOT XXXX

I don't believe there is much connection between the earlier grade of the same name. I believe there is an advertisement shared on the Lounge somewhere that shows the 1930s adjustment to Stetson's price catalog... memory has it from $7 to $5 or thereabouts but it may be fuzzy memory speaking...

    Stetson Sweat Stamps/ LOT XXXX

Agree... Stetson Special was a five dollar depression era grade. The ones I’ve handled have a fabric liner with a slippery hand, acetate perhaps?

Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

The gold size tag and perforated sweatband are c.1940 tidbits. The hat might have a LOTXXXX imprint behind the front of the sweatband. The taped liner is probably the result of a cleaning/renovation.

Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

The gold size tag and perforated sweatband suggest c.1940. Might be a year or two on either side. It’s a handsome hat.

    Post New Hats Here!

Thanks for checking... they end right around this time... 1942-43. It’s a really great hat.

OTHER THAN eBAY Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

Another remarkable example of the durability of the textured "The Fray" sweatband. And save this photo to share when the thought surfaces (as it seems to do from time to time) that early hats were not assembled with reeded sweatbands.
