    Panama Hat Thread

A few photos to compare and contrast the weave characteristics of different types of straw hats. Posted here instead of the Side By Side thread in hopes that it might help you to identify some straw puzzlers of your own. First a parabuntal straw in a finely woven and very light hat. I purchased...

The hard-to-find or unusual Hat Circle

Same here... I’ve only seen this silk brim wrapping on formal hats. A dandy special? Many of the hats from this store which closed prior to WWI had much moth damage and soiling. This one is virtually intact.

Thanks Max. I’ll run the cork boater idea by my manager and see if it floats.

The hard-to-find or unusual Hat Circle

By definition of its sweatband imprint, this one fits better here than anywhere else on the Lounge. Made in the first decade of the 20th century, stock from a long gone Cheyenne, Wyo store. Sunday hat, perhaps?... with silk wrapped underbrim and fancy silk ribbon with tassel. The quality of the...

The hard-to-find or unusual Hat Circle

Not sure this fits the bill... the Lounge member I purchased it from said he had a second just like it. Art made some very nice modern homages as well. But here you go - Dunlap duplex, c.1940 with "sizor" adjustable sweatband feature as advertised in the 1938 ad below.

    Turquoise/Native American jewelry

Today's wrist wear... the heaviest cuff in my collection at 141 grams. The size and oval shape are a good fit and carry the heft well, though I have to admit I usually reach for another if I'm thinking about comfort. This profusely stamped bracelet is by Diné silversmith Mark Chee (1914-1981)...

Borsalino Gorasgu with stately proportions and felted brim edge. Color of a wild ram, or perhaps the eclipsed moon.

Heavy cuffs can be unpleasant - same with a cuff that doesn't fit quite right on the wrist. A good fit can help a lot to carry the weight. Beauty!

    Pre- 1940s Stetson dress hats.

Nice hat and great addition. It's got mixed messages in terms of the manufacturing tags and marks... perhaps a result of WWII era shortages requiring a reach back in supplies. The board reinforced crown liner is a later derby era detail - great to have one without dents. Thanks for posting.

    The Stetson Playboy

I seem to be reaching often for this ventilated Playboy Air-Light... a recent acquisition shared with me by my good friend Anthony Amodeo. Late 1930s - 1940.

    Post New Hats Here!

Two wonderful finds, Daniele. Is it possible to find a manufacturing label in the Fléchet? I've always had some doubt about the age of the NOS velour hats RLK purchased years ago (I have one) and never noticed the award years imprinted on the crown liner, which is the same as yours.
