    North by Northwest

Saw "North by Northwest" the other night, man - what a suit! Oh - great film as well! :p In general, I really liked the costumes in that film. There were some nice suits to be seen, and more than a few choice lids. Not knowing all that much about '50s fashion, I wasn't expecting to...

    Turn a 2-button into a 3-button?

Hello all... Is it possible to turn a 2-button suit jacket into a 3-button one, providing the jacket has enough room/big enough?

    Stretching a hat 1"?

I recently stretched one up from 7 1/4 to 7 3/8, and I got that "step" that Magus referred to. My stretcher isn't tall enough to extend into the crown. Ideally one would use a hatblock. I found that in this hat, the band stretched with no problem, however it does want to go back to its...

Not Sissy Actors but REAL MEN

:) Jean Moulin was indeed a real man! I am flattered and honoured that some would think I resemble him. I think it is all in the hat. ;) I wonder if I would have the same courage to stand up to foreign oppressors as Monsieur Moulin did? I would like to think I would be able to, but...

    What makes a suit "cheap"?

Like the previous post, most of my suits are custom made as well. I have had some bad experiences with cheap suits however. The first thing that usually happens is that the trousers wear through on the inner thighs from rubbing during walking. I had a polyester blend suit that did this to...

That place looks swell. When we're out in LA we'll have to check it out.

    Soccer/Footy fans?

We support Rapid Bucuresti! Things are pretty quiet in our house, as neither Ireland, nor Romania, qualified for the World Cup. :(

    Belt-backed suit sighting

I was on the Tube last week when I spotted a young fella wearing a navy belt-backed suit. As I don't believe that they're something one can buy "off the rack" here in London, I can only assume it was vintage. It really didn't look out of place, I think that the dark colour of the suit...

    Do your best/worst!

Best: An elderly woman came up to me on the street and said that it was good to see a young man properly dressed, that I looked very nice, reminded her of her husband. She added that it is a shame that more young people don't dress like I do! Worst: The usual "ganster" comment, occasional...

How often do you dine out?

We tend to eat out at least once a week. There are so many restaurants in our area of London that it would be a shame not to! ;) (That being said, we actually think the restaurants are better in Dublin, but that is another thread and perhaps a bit of bias on my part! :p :offtopic: )...

    My Vintage Car Aquisition Odyssey

NCT? Hey Mr. H, Out of curiosity... does your new ride have to pass the NCT, or would it be exempt as an historical car?

    My Vintage Car Aquisition Odyssey

Congratulations Mr. H, on your marvelous acquisition, a plan well executed and a wonderful story as well. The car is a beauty, and I'm sure that it will make motoring in and around Dublin a lot more enjoyable! You'll surely be king of the road with that fab machine!

    "New" Stetson Royal Deluxe

I don't know... Forties? It is very floppy, very soft - almost no stiffener.

    "New" Stetson Royal Deluxe

Well... I don't have my scanner hooked up, but the paper is in strips, maybe 1'' x 4''. You can only see a wee part of the picture. I don't know much about American Football, so I don't know when they stopped wearing this type of helmet. It looks a bit like a WWII pilot, or even tanker...

    "New" Stetson Royal Deluxe

When I pulled the sweat down to moisten it a wee bit, I found that a previous owner had added some newspaper to adjust the fit... This is some old newpaper, I can't quite make out the date (because it was cut into strips just ahead of the date!) but I can see a picture of a football player...

    "New" Stetson Royal Deluxe

Upon reflection, this hat is really close to the custom Optima that MK has. The feel of the felt and design are very similar.

    "New" Stetson Royal Deluxe

Hello all, A few weeks back I picked up a light grey Stetson Royal Deluxe. I sniped at the last minute what turns out was another 'Lounge member - many apologies! :o It is a lovely hat indeed. The felt is uber-soft and easily molded, there are no holes or rips to speak of. It doesn't have...

Help a poor ol' Boston gal find a place to live on Long Island.

Ah, I have many not-so-fond memories of commuting on the 495 back when we lived on Lawn Guyland. We lived for about 5 months in Elmont, which isn't too far from Hofstra. We lived for years in Patchogue - which is pretty far from Hofstra.
