Okay, an update. I used white spirit and it took off quite a bit of the darker polish. I still have to go back over - there is about 20% that remained behind.
So, white spirit does work - but it stinks to high heaven.
Usually when I get the gangster comment, it is intended as a compliment. As someone said above, some guys consider it cool. [huh]
I do get more compliments than I expect, which is always a good thing. More than that, I get many more looks, at least according to my ever watchful wife...
Hello all,
Without realising it I've used a darker brown polish on a pair of tan to medium brown shoes. The light was kind of dim and I didn't really notice until I got outside the next day.
Has anyone ever removed polish from brown leather shoes before? I've had success using white...
Cool lid! Congratulations!
I have a similar hat on which I am going to have the thin ribbon replaced with a grosgrain one. Does anyone here have any pics of this type of transformation?
The thin ribbon just doesn't look that good on me... in my opinion. Perhaps I'll grow to like it.
I tried Murrays, but my wife didn't like the uber-greasy feel. However, Murrays makes a beeswax-based pomade that is great. It is a lot easier to apply, doesn't "flake" anywhere near as bad as the regular Murrays and washes out easily as well.
It makes it easier to "restore my 'do" when I...
Keep fighting the good fight - the world needs more hat wearers! :eusa_clap
I started wearing a dress hat right before we moved from Dublin to the UK. I wore it to two interviews, and I got offers both times. I think that a man wearing a hat comes across as a more serious character...
Thanks. I like your avatar by the way!
I am seriously considering adding a Open Road or a Stratoliner to my collection. They look great, well - on other people. I've yet to try one out, as there aren't too many in my neck of the woods.
Now if I can only find one that fits, is in the...
Interesting. I see many people who mix jeans with a blazer (I myself have done so on several occasions). I can see it now... in several years time it will be acceptable to wear track suit bottoms with a sportsjacket... :eusa_doh:
Howdy all,
When would you figure the last "decent" Open Roads were manufactured? Were they OK into the '70s or '80s?
Also - how can you tell the difference? Is the sweat or liner different than the earlier eras?
Thanks!
Eeeecchhhhh... I cannot stand track suits. They are de riguer for the knacker/chav set over here.
You often see someone sporting a white or light coloured track suit... more often than not the light colour lets the stains of dubious origin show.
Yecchhh!
Good point! My wife's granny in Moldova has a similar house, except that she doesn't have a washing machine (does it all by hand). Actually... this house might be a bit more modern! ;)
I used to love National Geographic. The pictures, stories... very interesting.
My wife did/does as well, and was a subscriber up until recently. The magazine has gotten a wee bit political for her taste, and then they started this "zip code usa" thing where they focus on a particular part...
Thanks for the pics - it certainly does look similar.
By the way - nice lid! I'll have to keep me eyes peeled for a Dunlap in my size. It is similar to the Royal Stetson I have on in my avatar, but the ribbon and brim appear to be a bit broader.
I work for a very large bank (I'm in IT - not a banker myself) and shirt/tie is de rigeur. I wear a suit every day, and on "casual Fridays" (which aren't every Friday but perhaps once a month) I usually wear a sportsjacket and tie. Seldom will I wear jeans.
I used to work for other...
It has to be an exceptional film to see in the cinema... either that, or a real special-effects laden, over the top type that you can only enjoy on the big screen.
We've got a decent media setup at home (large tv, surround sound, hooked into a "media centre" type PC), and we usually prefer to...
This is what we did. We have several apartments, which will one day (hopefully) serve as or suppliment our pensions.
We're not interested in the stock market and are in no way out to make a killing. We want to make sure we're not begging on the corner in our golden years, however we don't...
It must've been tough to be 4-F during wartime. Does anyone know how men deemed unsuitable for service were treated by society during this time?
I read a bit about Charles Bukowski's experiences in 1940s America, but somehow I don't think that his life would parallel that of the majority of...
