    The Open Road Guild

... count me in as well! Hello all, I've just acquired an Open Road as well. It is in excellent shape, however it had a cattleman's block. I tried to re-shape it with steam, but it is hard to get those dents out. It is hard to look enthused when you are taking your own pic! ;)...

    UK VAT experts?

Hi all - thanks for all the helpful info. Salv - as usual, your experience has been of great assistance. I contacted the seller, they put down the full price of what I paid on the customs form as the value of the hat, so... I guess I have no choice but to pay The Man (or would it be in this...

    UK VAT experts?

Thanks for that info - I'm trying to contest this now, but Parcelfarce's automated hold service keeps "accidentally" hanging up on me. :rage: What a shower of eejits... I've dealt with Parcelfarce before, they were unable to deliver a package to the massive bank where I work. I mean, the...

    UK VAT experts?

Hello! I won a hat on eBay from the US. Instead of receiving the hat today - I received a letter from Parcelfarce saying I owed them for VAT. I've received hats from the US in the past and not had to pay VAT on them - what gives? I thought that there is no VAT on used clothing?

Golden Era Soviet Architecture That Never Was

So that is what those things posted in the tube are all about... I thought that the "Unfinished Tower" was an advert for a soon-to-be-ready roller coaster at Alton Towers or something... :eusa_doh:

    Eurovision anyone?

Only just... ;) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurovision It makes for a fun evening of taking the mickey out of the contestants. Sometimes there are a few good ones - but most of the time they quite tacky. Ah, well - it is good, clean fun. Here are this year's winners. A welcome...

ANNOUNCEMENT: Fedora Lounge Launches a Magazine

This is great news MK!!! Just the other day I was perusing the magazine section at Borders here in Islington, wishing that there was a periodical that addressed a classic lifestyle. Your timing is excellent! :eusa_clap I believe that there is a market for this type of publication -...

    Bad Book - Better Movie?

I agree about "Fight Club" and "Blade Runner". Perhaps I am in the minority, but I enjoyed "The Maltese Falcon" more as a film than as a book. I didn't read "The DaVinci Code" until about a year ago. My wife read it and was of the same opinion as many others here; it is a good idea...

    Eurovision anyone?

Ah, well... C&W music, German style. I actually liked the song. It wasn't bad. I'm happy Finland won. They rocked. Those guys from Lithuania weren't bad either. We voted for Romania - along party lines. Yer man has a good voice. Eurovision is a hoot.

    Latest acquisition

Very nice indeed. I wasn't sure how the wider ribbon would look with the thin one on the bound brim, but they look fine together. :eusa_clap

Thanks for that Root. Clashing colours is something that I don't usually realise until it is too late!

    Grey trousers + brown shoes

... a variation on the theme of the original question What about wearing brown shoes, grey or blue suit and a grey hat? Is that a faux pas? I only ask because I don't currently have a brown hat. Well, I have a Dobbs but it is a wee bit too big.

The Elephant in the Room - Man Purse

Here in decadent Europe there are many men who carry "manbags". I myself carry one on occasion, one of those old WWII gas mask bags. It does the trick and looks cool. However, while wearing the aforementioned accessory in the US, I was occasionally a target for derision and ridicule from an...
