I dated it thanks to the style and the size tag. I found one like it in the thread here about dating vintage Stetsons by their size tags.
Good luck!

Please check it out. It's a fantastic hat. The relatively stingy brim will scare some off, but the proportions of this hat are really nice. I got compliments every time I wore it.

Just wanted to report that the hat arrived today, and I love it. So soft and comfortable. It fits my 7 1/2 long oval head very well. It's not pristine (nor was it advertised to be), and maybe that's part of the charm. It has a "favorite pair of jeans" kind of feel.
Anyway, I love it. I still...
Scott,
I feel kinda guilty, although I didn't do anything but put in a bid that ended up winning. Does it help to know that, if the hat fits as I hope, it will be cherished for years to come? And, if it doesn't work for me, you can certainly have it back.
For what it's worth, I've been in the...
Not to denigrate the Akubra product or anyone who ordered one, but I wasn't tempted by that offering. This prototype Strat, though, has me drooling. Can't wait to place my order.

Another fine hat I purchased awhile back that just didn't work for me. In this case, the hat is too small for me, and I didn't want to risk the stretching.
A fantastic, Royal DeLuxe Stetson Open Road, in classic Silverbelly. Made as a 7 3/8. See measurements below. Photos were taken in...
One of several Johnny Phi fedoras I purchased a few years back. This is a lovely hat, but I have discovered I don't wear it very often. It's clean out time at my house, so this one goes.
The hat was made as a 7 1/2. When I got the hat I dunked it in cold water and stretched it to a long oval...
I got the Milan. More than I wanted to spend, too! ;)
It's something I've been looking for. I have a darker Stetson that is really fantastic, but a bit large for me (it's a 7 5/8 long oval). With a Milan, it's harder the shrink them to size. I would just dunk a felt in water and it would...
As gtdean stated in his own post, my comment above was specifically directed at "top of the line" vintage hats. I have found nothing modern that comes close to a fine Borsalino from the forties or fifties, a Stetson 3X Beaver from the same era, etc. The felt is superior. Part of that is the...
I have and love some custom hats. I respect those who continue the craft. I honestly feel, though, that NO ONE can make a modern hat as good as the top of the line vintage models.

I bought the Optimo. Wasn't aware of the history here. Still not clear why it was made... as a gift at a Buick event? Anyway, even with a few minor flaws and in black, it was too good a value to pass up. Getting the box too is a nice bonus.

I have three 7 1/2 or larger vintage lids on the bay right now. Please check them out. The Cavanagh is particularly sweet. I will admit to my FL brethren that the reserve is set at $150 for that one.
Cavanagh.
Champ.
Herbert Johnson.
Thanks,

I just paid well for what looks like the Champ version of the Whippet, probably from the fifties. Very rare chance to get a hat in exactly my size (hoping it's not too big), with the original box, as well.
