Well, I'm trying to decide if I'll be a customer. The dimensions of the Fedora Fest III hat that I have read seem similar to those on Delmonico's. If the main thing apart from felt quality is the blocking (thanks for info), then that clears a lot up. I've never paid very close attention to Stratoliner conversations. I'll be looking for photos of the hat worn on the folks when they come out.

The current production Strat has a factory block and a 2-1/2" brim. The FF3 hat being talked about here has an open crown, 2-3/4" brim and (it seems) a higher quality sweatband.

I gotta say- I really like them both on their own merits. They're different enough that I'd have no problem owning either or both of them-

Here you go...Heritage Campdraft Deluxe is on the right. I'm going to get my 7X CB to compare...

OK, great. No doubt was said before, but I couldn't find it on a quick look. As long as they are planning to offer those different colors, I may look into it. I would probably go for this one rather than the Heritage Campdraft because I already have a couple of silverbelly Open Roads, including the 25 I got recently, so don't want to be redundant.

Lucky dog --- I have no vintage silver belly, as my luck at finding large hats of any kind is minimal.

Hey GTDean, what is a 'CB', and don't tell me it's a kind of radio from the 70s.....

CB = Clear Beaver
Stetson put out a 5X Clear Beaver & a 7X Clear Beaver which was claimed to be undyed, natural beaver fur felt.
Same as the Stetson 100.

OK, thanks, I should have known that - by the way, is the brim of your FF3 a true 2-3/4"? It looks to be a little smaller than the brim on the Camp Draft.

The Campdraft has a 2 7/8" brim all the way around. The FF3 brim is almost a dimensional cut. Measuring against the reed, I get 2 5/8” front, 2.5” sides & 2.75” rear. It is a prototype.

Ah, very good, thanks for info, I didn't realize the CD brim was that large. Good point about the FF3 being a prototype, too.

I love the color compared to the CD. I like it is significantly different. And I just like it better. For me the CD is too tan/brown.

Not to denigrate the Akubra product or anyone who ordered one, but I wasn't tempted by that offering. This prototype Strat, though, has me drooling. Can't wait to place my order.

So basically this hat will be very good quality, comparable to the old strats, but not necessarily matching them?

My understanding is that they are gonna be much closer (if not almost exact) as any reproduction recently. The open crown will allow you to give it your own style. The crown on the reproductions recently are nothing like the original strats. They are even talking about having the Stratoliner Airplane Pin on the ribbon.
