Don't know how I snagged this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...witem=&sspagename=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_8911wt_932

I'd guess early 1950's from sweatband imprint (gold carriage) and plastic tip in liner. But style looking a bit backward from that.

Here is what it looked like after a little re-shaping from the original Harry Truman look:

Actual color chocolate brown. Per eBay records, went BIN on May 6...did anyone else see it and pass it up? I never saw it until Sunday night and pounced.

Actual brim is 2-1/2" (not 2.75 as per seller), 5-15/16" straight open crown, somewhat on light weight side at 4.5 ounces, absolutely beautiful finish and firm but not stiff hand. Might become my favorite.

I was tempted by this Resistol Milan because I have its brother. Same make, model, store, age, size, AND initials.
Mine's a golden "natural" color. Must have been the same original buyer. But that was more than I wanted to spend
(though still a good deal).

I got the Milan. More than I wanted to spend, too! ;)

It's something I've been looking for. I have a darker Stetson that is really fantastic, but a bit large for me (it's a 7 5/8 long oval). With a Milan, it's harder the shrink them to size. I would just dunk a felt in water and it would conform. Not an option with the Milan. Anyway, I think I can get good money for the Stetson, so I decided to flip it for this Resistol. Sure looks like a beauty, and the size should be perfect. The only downsize is that it's a lighter gray. I'll miss this dark one, even if it was ill-fitting.

Having been outbid many times on broad-ish brimmed Milans, I finally won what looks like a nice Knox.

That is my problem with so many straws on ebay, SteveAs. I will not wear a hat with a 2 inch or less brim (they just look horrid on me) and most of the straws on ebay seem to be stingies.

Rusty, I hate when a Seller doesn't ship right away. But it's a hazard of eBay. In this case, details said "usually ship within 5 business days". I try to avoid Sellers that go more than 2 in that listing (would prefer they ship immediately, just like I pay). Then there is the post office (used in this case I'll bet). Parcel Post (I always assume that when "standard shipping" is indicated) can vary greatly. I once had a pen that took 30 days to show up. When it arrived, the postmark proved the Seller had shipped within two days.

Then again, I once had an antique razor over 100 yrs old never show up. Seller didn't want refund either. Since that time, I always file a claim with eBay as soon as the allotted time in the shipping details has passed (you cannot file before that time). Hope the case gets to you soon, looks to be a great deal on a great case.

ETA: BTW, thought I recognized that eBay user name.... that's Dinerman! :D

I have been pretty lucky with ebay shipping. Once in a while something takes around 10 days when I feel it shouldn't, but usually I get everything in less than 7 days. Though last month one item took 14 days to reach me. The seller shipped within 2 days of the auction, but it sat in the Post Office for days and days and days going no where fast -- but I did get it eventually. So far (knock on wood) I have only had two items never show up. One was $100 out the window as seller refused to refund my $$. The other was refunded quickly, but I got the suspicion that the seller changed his mind about selling the item and never sent it in the first place (twice he emailed me complaining that I got the item for far less than he expected it to sell for).

Couldn't get any size info but hard to find an actual hat rather than the common adverts of the 20's and 30's.

This is probably a very naive thing to do but if I don't ask, I'll only know once the auction is finished and even then I won't know whether it was a good or a bad price.

So, what's a fair price for this one please?

And while I am at it this one?

I hope asking is not a breach of the lounge etiquette...

1934 Gordon NRA

I won this hat this afternoon:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4340.l2557&rt=nc&nma=true&item=270747163226&si=aEFVm%252FdenFDCuzE%252FO2glM%252BnRvDk%253D&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT
I couldnt pass it up this time. I missed it when it was sold by the original seller, and luckily Rilico bought it and resold it. I love the proportions and its my first NRA labeled hat. The moth damage in the rear of the hat doesnt bother me. It will be added to my pre-1940 collection. I just love the sweatband in the hat and the colors just popped out to me. I wonder if this "Gordon" is the same company as the Gordons that Dinerman owns or owned? I would assume it is, but one can never be too sure. I cant wait to have it in my hands.
