    Show us your British suits

I'm wearing a Burton suit right now that had similar alterations. The back trouser darts were let out and waistband patched at the back, trousers skinnified, jacket let out (all the way out), and the vest was re-backed which probably gave it 6". Except for narrowing the legs, it all seemed to...

    What are you wearing today??

I have a couple pairs of MoP cufflinks I found in my grandmother/great-grandmother's button bucket. I rarely use them since I'm not sure about how they look with a white shirt. I mainly use them with not-white shirts, though that's just me.

On the matter of detachable collars

Yes, you could do that. It won't be asymmetrical like a detachable collar usually is, unless you take the collar off the stand and make a new stand. In any case, there always are possibilities.

    Linen pants for summer

I meant the legs. Lining the fork is a good idea for any material, really.

    Linen pants for summer

No lining is necessary in linen trousers. A lining kind of defeats the purpose, since linen breaths so well. I would go with the heavier, even with the warm summers we (usually) get here. Very light linen doesn't drape as well and wrinkles something awful. Heavier linen drapes better. It...

Yes, it would be the best option, I think.

    The Vintage Tailoring Thread

There's always going to be evidence of the old pockets, but the slit could be closed up. Some (modern) patch pockets I've seen have a bit of stay tape on the outside below the edge of the patch, so if that were adopted it would cover the slit. There are some other options, too. In any case...

    The Vintage Tailoring Thread

Yes, should be doable. As long as the tops of the patches were a little higher than the slit of the pocket mouth, say a half inch at least.

    Back of Hat

    There's always back bows, too.

    The Vintage Tailoring Thread

That's the thing, though. A vintage winter suit is made of much thicker fabric than you'll generally find today. Even lightweight fabrics then seem to drape better than lightweights today. I think the yarns from which fabrics today are often made from, the much vaunted Super-100s, etc, are...

    increasing a shirt collar size?

Probably '50s, looks like a regular white shirt more than a work shirt (depending on how we're defining that). You might be able to have the buttonholes lengthened a bit on the neck band so it fits better, and you could have a new collar made from the shirt tails, though collars are common...

    The Vintage Tailoring Thread

Heavy, certainly, compared to the paper usually used in suits today. No idea where they get uncomfortable and itchy, though.

Gentlemen, show us what you've made!

I made another detachable collar shirt, this time with good oxford cotton. I made a double round and spearpoint collar for it, and also copied an original '20s Arrow De Luxe silk collar. With a collar bar. 1 7/8" tall at the back. Only very lightly spray starched to aid ironing, and...

I think so, yes. They also have waistcoats, you can just see the edge of them along the lapel roll.
