    Hat Stretcher Stuck to Sweat!

I think the stretching did it. The rip happened right at the sewing, where one would expect the highest stress concentrations during the stretch. If you would continue to stretch it, I would strongly suggest that you take a very good examination of the material underneath the finish to see if...

    Fedora Lounge Theme Song....

After looking at the 3 pages of posts here, I'm surprised no one has made the (easy) suggestion of the "Borsalino" movie theme song composed by Claude Bolling. :) A great video of the song played by the man himself can be seen here: http://ie.youtube.com/watch?v=TwSuowXt6D4

    Shaping a Panama?

From experience, I would say even just wetting the hat with tap water will permit it to be shaped.

    Borsalino Befuddlement

If I remember correctly, there was a Borsalino hat auctioned off at ebay that was sold originally in Italy but had American sizing. Given the certain existence of advertising in English for shops selling Borsalino hats in Italy in the past and given that shops like Luzzi in Rome was right near...

    Which Presidents Wore Hats>?

I do find it interesting though that although JFK probably didn't kill hats, the hat industry definitely thought he helped and would have dearly loved for him to wear hats more: "The Personal Papers of Al Webb, who was a PT boat serviceman and a friend of John F. Kennedy, as well as the Vice...

    London Bowler hats

If I remember correctly, there's a thread from not so long ago from someone who seemed to be very satisfied with his bowler purchase from Lock's. Have fun shopping!

    Help finding straw "Goldfinger" hat

Far as I know, all the hats in the Bond movies are from Lock & Co. I wouldn't be surprised if this one also is from Lock & Co.

    Sinatra's hats

Cavanagh. I remember reading somewhere long ago that his daughter confirmed that Sinatra wore Cavangh and she was seeking help to find a Cavanagh to put in a museum for him.

    A fur felt fedora for $24.50 ???

Since you asked ... :) ... I think the hat would look good on you if you got a bigger size? It looks like it's sitting really high up on your head. Then again, it seems like people here really like their hats high up on their heads. I personally don't understand it, and maybe it's me who's...

    DeHydrated Straws

Have you tried putting a bit of water on the hat and sloshing it around? My panama got a bit "crunchy" (as it can get pretty dry in the winter here), and directly wetting it did it wonders. As long as you don't go overboard you shouldn't have to do too much reshaping work, and I don't think you...

    steam wand :)

I don't know if this would count, but let's see. After reading (on here) that sanding is a way to deal with (light) moth damage on the surface of a hat, I was tempted to try it out but I did not have the trust in being even and gentle enough with sand paper on a hat. I have one of these things...

    Stetson Playboy Won... Oh no!!!!!!!

Here's the trick to beat off all buyer's remorse in Vickrey-esque auction. Just remember that there is that other guy who is willing to pay $1 less than you for the item (who as such at least share your belief in the item for the amount it went for), and that since you had originally certainly...

    Wow! Expensive hat

I wonder if it's the same thing as the Borsalino 100% beaver offered at Bencraft's (for significantly less)? Anyway, a check on Google with "Borsalino beaver ultimo" will suggest another source selling the hat at $550, so the person selling it at $725 must be ... [words left out].

I want this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matsusaka_beef Judging from the picture, $1000 USD would only buy about 4.5 lbs of this meat ....

Report: Bowler hat from Lock & Co

Thanks for your report on the bowler! I still think you should have gone with a trilby/fedora as you first posted in the forum. :) And yes, even if the answer you could have received about the origins of the bowler wasn't one you liked, it's not like you had much of a choice anyway in this...

    Tullio Bertasio pics...

Bolthead, I think the hat looks great. However, I do think the ribbon looks too tight around the hat, such as seen in this picture of yours: Forgive my ignorance if the hat is supposed to be like that, but I can't help but think the hat might do with a small adjustment of the ribbon.

What do you think of the Indiana Jones hats?

You can if you still want. ;) There are many academic digs that need volunteers with loads of listings on the website of the Archaeological Institute of America, and it's a very nice way to spend a vacation. I was at one and I would never hesitate to join another one again.

Chocoholics Anyomous meeting has come to order.....

Hm ... how is chocolate a vice? It doesn't require moral concessions and doesn't make people do stupid things. And one can hardly go bankrupt even if one has developed such a fine taste that all he can ever eat is Amedei Chuao chocolates .... Or maybe I am just making excuses. :) At any rate...
