As this jacket will be made by G&B, I'll just have them sew the patches on. They said it could be done on the material prior to the lining being sewn in.
I don't wish to brag...but what the heck! My Dad (Cpl. D.B. Oleson) was in the 24th Infantry, 1944-1945. Philippine Islands - Leyte...
My Vintage B-15 will be here today. Ordered size (L). Hope it is a 42R. If so, it will be a perfect fit. Will know this afternoon...maybe late tonight as UPS has a habit of making deliveries at 2100.
We are going to purchase a nice flight jacket for my father on his 90th birthday. He is a highly decorated WWII veteran. It would be nice to sew his patches (replica, as his originals are framed) on the jacket.
Not sure if the jacket will be satin, or nylon material, or even leather. How...
How is the sizing on your L2A? Normal fit, or does it run undersized? You would think that a large is a large is a large, but it does not seem to be the case.
Much the same thing has been experienced by the US paint industry. While not being legislated completely out of business, the government mandates have run the cost up considerably...have you priced a quart of aircraft paint lately? Same thing with automotive paints.
I was told by more than one manufacturer (including G&B) that most skins come from the Middle East (Pakistan), especially if it is goat skin. Very few, if any, hides are of US origin today. This is due to the government getting into the tanning business...your friendly EPA.
edit: As...
Go to Ebay, search "Made in USA MA-1 Alpha". usarmyboots will come up. Click on that, then click see all feedback. That should do it. His feedback is very positive.
I recently purchased their Signature Series USCG Issue G-1. Made by Schott, it is a very nice jacket. The customer service was just fine. I would buy from them again, and give them a good recommendation.
Does anyone know if the G-1 jackets were ever standard issue in black leather? I think there have been a few photos of at least one military officer wearing a black leather G-1.
Ditto for my G&B chrome tanned A-2. Great color and suppleness, even for cowhide. The more I wear it, the more obvious it becomes that this is one fine garment.
I suspect that the "veg tanning" thing is more sales hype than anything else. Hear come the slings and arrows...better duck quickly!
The B-15 will arrive on Thursday, the 6th. It is the "Vintage" B-15, made in USA, from belote on Ebay, 99.5% positive feedback. Bet it goes right back to him faster than a Cheetah on cocaine!
