Read the title...Budget - Econo. What did you expect? I bought a brand new Mercedes Benz "E" Class...it was "cheap" because I picked it up in Germany and shipped it to the USA. The discussion then was about cost too.
I ordered the A-2 in size "M", and in brown leather. Did you check black? Their "Nose Dive" jacket is on sale for $78, down from $140. It actually looks close to a B-10. Two color options on it, Olive and gray.
Update: Just ordered the A-2 from Alpha Industries, directly from their website. Complete cost with shipping is $264. They have a fantastic return/exchange policy is one reason I went with them. Plus the jacket has a one piece back...thank you Doctor Strange!
And, my trying on and examining...
The size "M" will fit like a small. My size "L" Vintage B-15 is the same as a normal size "M".
In fact, today's Alpha satin jackets in a size "M" are LARGER than my large B-15.
Based on the customer photos and feed back, plus the recommendation from RailRoad, might just give this one a try. I can always send it back!
$119...free shipping, free returns...are you kidding me? Ha!
Here is my plan as to how to customize the jacket for my Dad...
This is the easiest question to answer yet...Gibson & Barnes. Their jackets are supremely put together, and the WWII replica jackets are probably what you want. The Type A-2 Mark 43 is horse hide in russet. 393 British Pounds. That is 470 Euros. Or $648.
That is well within your budget, and the...
Yes, the "Landing Leathers" A-2 had been under consideration. And the reviews on the jacket were mostly VERY positive. Can't beat the price.
That WPG Goatskin A-2 looks very, very nice. Again, the price is right. I will investigate these a bit more. Thanks!
I had found an Alpha A-2 for $190...
A local tailor in Dallas with a leather specialty (A-2's, Biker Jackets, patches everywhere!), quoted me $65 to pull the lining, sew the 9 patches on, and re-stitch the interior. I do not want the lining sewn to the patch. Personal problem, I guess.
Found an Alpha for the magic number...under $200.
This jacket will be given away in the end, so that is why I have the budget stated. Ebay? That runs hot and cold...not too keen on a garment worn by someone else, perfumes, odors, wear and tear, etc.
That is a major gripe with me...the Alpha logo permanently embossed. The Alpha leather CWU 45/P jackets I tried on were quite nice, but had the removable Alpha "name tag" stuck on with velcro. At least you can get a custom name tag to put on.
Their A-2's look very nice in the photos. But then...
First, let us define our terms.
Budget: Equal to or less than $300.
I have been searching, and there are surprisingly a number of leather jackets, including A-2's and G-1's available in this range. And if you shop hard enough, you can find them for under $200.
In one or two cases these...
I have tried on several Alpha leather jackets, not an A-2 however. Very impressed at the quality overall. The photos online do not do the jackets justice.
