I would go to visit the factory (San Diego) before making a purchase. I was impressed with the Alpha leather jackets. Trying to get military patches sewn on without sewing through the lining...this has to be done at the time the jacket is made. Or, take the lining out of a ready made jacket, but...
Just curious if anyone here has ever worn an Alpha A-2, or known someone that has owned one.
I am looking for an inexpensive A-2 to experiment with, but want one that is decent. After seeing the leather Alpha jackets in Germany, as well as the satin jackets, I am convinced that they are of...
My G&B Civil A-2, layed flat out on a table, faced down, measures 23.75" pit to pit, seam to seam. My jacket is a 42R.
The sleeve length and body length are spot on perfect...way better fit than my Schott / US Wings G-1.
I have had two suits tailored there, plus a lot of my friends get their uniforms custom made there. Have not heard any complaints at all!
There must be many good tailors there based on the number of import jackets for sale in the US.
Living in China? Here is a thought. Many of my fellow pilots go to China on a regular basis (Hong Kong / Shanghai), and while there have clothing custom tailored for them. This would include leather jackets. Can't you find a local leather goods tailor and have a jacket made for you??? This would...
Thanks! Good to have your insight on this. I am very much "sold" on G&B and plan to have them custom make a cloth A-2 for my Dad, complete with his WWII Patches and medals.
Please help me out here...my G&B A-2 is perfect in every way that I can imagine. It is cowhide, and has side entry pockets (love them!), so it is not what the anal retentive (and you know who you are!) will select as their own jacket as it is not a true replica AAF WWII jacket. You have seen the...
Let me add that while you can spend more money, you will be hard pressed to find a jacket of better quality from any manufacturer. There are those who have their personal bias towards one company or another, but Fanch has visited the G&B manufacturing center, so you can take his recommendations...
Or, buy one from Cockpit AND Gibson & Barnes. Compare the two, keep the one you like. My money is betting on G&B.
I would suggest the Civil A-2. I really like the side entry "hand warmer" pockets. The fit is perfect, not overly large at all...like many would have you believe.
G&B A-2 on the...
You are in rare company as these jackets can only be bought by those who have flown on this particular B-17. The jacket sells for over $200, a ride on the B-17 will set you back another $450.
