They did send me a couple of leather samples last year when I asked for them. Now they have so many different hides (and linings) to choose from, makes deciding on one much more difficult.
Very nice jacket...and your Seattle pics are almost identical to the photos I took when I was there, LOL! Cool city, and great coffee! Enjoy your new jacket.
This is from the recently posted interview with John Chapman (Goodwear):
Q: When I visited you at your studio last year, you had a rack of full length fur coats in one corner of your studio.
A: "Yes, that's all for the Navy jackets that have mouton collars. No one makes modern mouton like they...
After checking the measurements Steve provided, I determined I need an extra 1.5" in sleeve and body length (I've always ordered tall/long sized jackets). They offered to build me a tall size jacket at no extra cost but stated the distressed hide was the full price of $899.
Decided to go a...
Ha! That would be a great way to decide on which jacket to get, sample them all :-)
The only bad news is that the one I'm most interested in, the distressed A-2, is NOT on sale. Steve said his web guy made a mistake and posted the wrong price; the others are on sale at $499 but the distressed...
Does anyone own A-2's by ELC, GW and BK? They'd be the best source for comparison between the Big 3 repro A-2 makers ( I left out Aero since their A-2 jackets have always been a notch slightly below ELC and GW while BK has considerably raised their stake in the authentic repro A-2 market).
Steve from SMW has sent several gracious follow-up e-mails re my inquiry into the distressed model A-2 jacket. I appreciated his reply and his customer support communication.
I'm back to being tempted! VERY tempted! Ugh! There's no avoiding the "buy a new leather jacket bug"!!! :-)

This was an interesting post I stumbled upon which may be of some interest to folks here on TFL.
It brought up a question: how much color mis-match is too much? A little variation seems not just normal but expected, owing...
If you see some period photos of original WWII Navy flight jackets, the mouton does appear to be dark brown. It's amazing how the elements (particularly u/v rays from the sun and salt air, like pipvh mentioned) will fade and weather fabric or material (mouton m-422a collars, navy blue cotton...
