There are domestic goats and there are also mountain/wild goats (different breeds). I believe most of the lighter, more-evenly grained 2.5 oz hides are domestic goats. Anything heavier (with more pronounced, irregular grain) could be wild mountain goat hide.

The DuBow 20960 is such a superb example of the A-2 it was the contract/model I chose when I ordered a GW repro from JC afew years ago. Truly an iconic contract and the "crown jewel" of any collection.
I think Steve has us all beat in the "coolness" department; and his A-2 was an original (Roughwear, I believe). "The Great Escape" (and McQueen's Virgil Hilts character) certainly struck a chord in popular culture that still resonates today.
