I have few straw hats (other than boaters) with wide ribbons. I've always thought this hat managed it well. It likely has more crown to work with than yours unless some brim goes into the equation.
That is a lovely weaving looking for its hat. The wide ribbon asks for a full crown. A mid ribbon would probably allow other creases to work well. I’m sure with Ignacio’s help it will find its mojo.
I believe someone posted a copy some years back. I've searched through the antique stores on the old Roycroft campus, where many examples from the old print shop can still be purchased. I own a number of them but have never found a copy of this one.
Thanks Joe and Steve. I am thrilled to have this hat and to wear it from time to time.
I haven't looked more into the browser issue... noticing the images don't display, I've just uploaded them in recent weeks rather than using the image link tool. Today, when I found the images display in...
ps... has anyone else found that the >insert photo URL< (the landscape icon) button no longer works from Google Chrome? It does seem to function normally from Safari.
Thank you... I think you will find other examples of the early Premier Quality mark in the pre-1940s Stetson Dress hats thread and the Exposition Medals thread, though both have been affected by the broken link to photographs virus over the years.
Later 1930s Stetson Excellent Quality
Interesting color, felt and finishing details on this Los Angeles sold Excellent quality - an everyday hat at an affordable price. This hat is of similar vintage to the early Open Road posted by Carouselvic.
What a beautiful hat! General Isaac Brock's monument is a short distance away from us on the other side of the mighty Niagara.
Beautiful photos. Tell me about that camera...
I am not certain on the dating of your recent Imperial, but a few thoughts. First, the manila Long Oval size tag is a variant which does not conform cleanly to the dating theories for the regular oval keyhole tags. I do not see a plastic liner protector on this hat, correct? I've uploaded a...
Nice new find... I think a little earlier than your estimate. The hat appears to have a fabric (rather than hard) reed, which is a construction detail that appears in 1940s hats. I think this one might perhaps be c.1950. The Imperial was a fifteen dollar hat that appears in tandem with other...
I don't want to belabor this, but I think time traveling between 1930s hat history and the modern era - speaking of a 1950 Stetson Open Road in the same breath as a 2020 Stetson Open Road - is confusing and leads to incorrect information and assumptions. This was handled well in the Stratoliner...
Hi Daniel... I think we have apples and oranges here. I'm not a Justia user so can't see the filing entities but the 1937 filing was surely made by the company producing hats in Philadelphia, PA that ceased operations and filed for bankruptcy in 1986. The date of first use in trade for this...
