    Proper hat maintenance for rookies...HELP!!

Laying a hat on the brim "depends". Most westerns have a dipping shape to the brim that setting them down on the brim will distort. That is why most say to always put western hats down on the crown. Fedoras can flip their brims up & have a lot softer crowns typically than westerns. Putting...

When do Cuban cigars become legally available in the US?

I've had good & bad Cubans like I've had good & bad DR, Nicaraguans, Hondurans & Mexican. Had some fine smokes out of Key West, too. The good Cubans were fantastic & only the great DR ones came even close to measuring up to them, but not quite. The size of the island of Cuba does produce the...

    The story of a hat

Facial features have a lot to do whether a hat style & dimensions look good on a person more than head circumference or hat size. Even a style of crease will work for some over others because of eye set & nose shape. Not sure I'm on board with head size being that driving of a factor...JMHO...

    Akubra Campdraft

You won't be able to tell a "heat" difference from Heritage (Deluxe) to Imperial grade Akubras. The Heritage felt is denser but that doesn't mean the Imperial breathes better or is lighter in weight because the Deluxe is pounced better & feels thinner. Sweatband & ribbons used are upgrades as...

The Non Shorpy Web All Stars.

Been using the same farrier for over 20 years. He was 18 or 19 when I first used him & now he's over 40. I'm constantly amazed at how he stoops to ply his skills still. Makes my lower back hurt watching him.

What is your favorite hat crease?

My favorite western crease is the arena crease. It is a slight modification to the alpine, little taller in the back than front. The felt hat that Robert Redford wears in The Horse Whisperer movie is a good example. I also like the brim shape of that hat as well. Fedora crease favorite is a...

Pencil roll/Kettle curl: How much brim width do you lose..?

My Boss of the Plains by Art uses a lot less than 1/2" of brim for a pencil curl edge. More like 1/4" at most. I'll measure for true later...

FS: Eastman ELMC Californian American Walnut Size 44

I thought a size 44 would be closer to 24 pit to pit (24 x 2) - 4 = size 44 A 22" pit to pit measurement would be a size 40. Or is that just for US sizes???

    Akubra kiandra

My pleasure Pete. To pad my lids, I go to craft dept of Wally World & buy white felt squares for about 50 cents each. I cut these in strips & put behind the sweatband. They don't bleed dye when you sweat.
