I ordered the Campdraft in Bluegrass Green from Everything Australian last night. According to the dropdown list on their website, it's in stock so hopefully my latest acquisition will arrive shortly.
I already have the Moonstone Gray version however, based on the numerous recommendations...
I just finished applying some beeswax leather preservative to the sweat band of a Stetson "Monza" which I purchased earlier this year, it's rotation time. With a list price of $375, this is a Sage colored fedora made of 100% beaver fur felt. Following the act of rotating the hat with my left...
I've been searching for a black cherry fedora or homburg but can't seem to find anything (other than offerings by some custom hatters). Needing a 7-5/8 or 7-3/4, I doubt I'll stumble across a vintage hat in that color that's wearable by me.
~ it's the modern Boss of the Plains look:

If I ever visit Saskatchewan, they'll call me the Boss of the Prairies.........:)
Akubra Bushman in Moonstone Grey
I've steamed down the front brim but I think I'll leave the open crown "as is". The tall crown elongates my roundish face.
With a 3-1/4 inch brim, that's about as large a brim for a hat that I'll wear to the office.
As per usual, this Akubra product is...
I own 5 different Akubra models, all however in Moonstone. That medium grey colour pretty well goes with anything.
Having said that, my most versatile hats colour-wise are my Biltmore Rosellinis in Driftwood aka Silver Belly. I'm not sure whether Akubra has a corresponding colour but if so...
Being in hat storage crisis mode, I contacted uline's Canadian branch as to whether their hat boxes as well as their corrugated boxes, were acid free. Herewith their response:

Thank you for contacting Uline Customer Service.
The S-7960 - 16 x 16 x 7" Two-Piece White Hat/Wreath Boxes...
Because of Free Trade practically everything I order from the USA is duty free, albeit subject to combined federal/provincial sales taxes totalling 13%. So under this new protocol I'll have the privilege of paying for what? This is why heretofore I've avoided using courier services like the...
Now that I'm hooked I've got to find an early 1950s Stetson One-Hundred in 7-5/8 or 7-3/4.
I wonder what a fair price would be in A-1 condition including the original box?
And now I'm all interested in picking up a load of the 16" square boxes of 7" height. I find it hard to locate boxes with that height, which is ideal for use in my shelving units (15" spacing between the shelves so I could double up the boxes).
RBH thx for posting the great image of the 1952 Stetson Stratoliner/Open Road combo ad.
I'm curious as to the details of the Open Road hat which would have cost $100 back in 1952, if anyone knows...
gtdean48 & facade ~ thx for your sage advice re: quality vintage hat datelines. This greatly assists in zeroing in on the desirable hats (assuming of course that I can get a good idea of the hat's manufacture date, I've seen helpful threads here for sure)
Various loungers in this thread & elsewhere have praised vintage Stetsons in particular. Is it possible to provide precise dates when referring to the superior vintage products formerly put out by the big name companies such as Stetson & others?
This would be a helpful reference point in...
I've got 4 Akubras in Moonstone Grey. They're definitely medium gray, not light gray:
-Fed IV
-CD
-Squatter
-Stylemaster
I recently tried to order the Turin too (same colour) but it's been discontinued...[huh]
Stetson "Dexter" in Imperial Grade size 7-5/8.
I've posted the front shot to indicate the extent of the taper.
Today's the 1st time I've worn this hat, I was struck by its weight ~ 175 grams or 6.2 ounces
The crown is 5-1/2" open, 5-1/4" dented/bashed as shown; 2-3/4" brim.
Black is a...
I wonder whether the manufacturers take into account hair style. My current Yul Brynner look is probably a full size smaller vs. when I was a young buck sporting my infamous Duck Tail.
The US sizes 6 & 7 in the chart are clearly erroneous & need to be corrected. I hope that someone new to hats doesn't rely on those numbers to his detriment.
