Way back when, my high school "Machine Shop" teacher required us young louts in his class to memorize the decimal equivalents in 1/8" increments. To this day, I'm probably one of the few people who can relate to 0.375", 0.625", 0.875" etc. Just remember that 0.125" equals 1/8", very useful... -

Why not just fabricate a plastic liner inside the sweat band, such as by cutting strips from those thick rolls sold at building supply centers? -
