Yes, I only looked it up once and saw it in Knoxville about an hour and a half north of me. That evening it was waiting for me at home, so I think the tracking was up to date, although I never checked it routinely. I would just try and be patient. I know its hard to do when you are waiting.

Well the reason I ask is because I'm going on a trip soon and want to see if it might arrive this Friday, the day before I leave. As far as the wait goes, this is nothing compared to the wait for my panama.

How do you like yours?

I love it. I have a problem with trying to keep new stuff nice, and I've never worn it outside the house. I've been abusing a Resistol conversion that I made a few months ago, I seem to be wearing it everywhere and it keeps looking better. Funny how that happens.
I bashed the Fed IV and steamed it to set it, then I wore it after getting a shower, so my hair was still wet. The humidity makes the sweat band conform. I will probably get a moonstone one too in a few months. this one is brown.

Hatsdirect got my Fed from Akubra! Now they just have to mail it to me!

Although unfortunatly I may be out of town when it gets here. Blazerbud and Picante, how long did delivery take on your feds?
I placed my order of Akubra Federation IV DeLuxe on March 5 my hat came in on march 14, about 7 working days, no tracking number, just a E-Mail with acknowledgment of my order.

7 buisness days, hmmm we'll see if I get it by Friday then.

I always avoid wearing a hat while my hair is still damp because hat hair is much worse, but that's a good idea to get it to fit better - I'll try that!

If it were me, I'd measure my head, then send an email to them for advice on ordering. They're pretty customer oriented.

+1 for this. However, I wear a 59. I have 4 Feds, all 59s. They all fit perfectly. Some were a touch bigger than others out of the box, but they all conformed to my head with a little wear and sweat.

Inspired by this thread, on March 4th I ordered me an Akubra Federation IV Deluxe in Moonstone Grey from Hats Direct. I went with my nominal size namely 61 cm. This great looking & well made quality hat arrived from Australia today. In terms of sizing, it is too big probably by about one size. I'd like to wear it during a warm Spring rain to see if the sweat band would shrink sufficiently to avoid using spacers, but alas I currently continue wearing my winter toque courtesy of unseasonably cold temps in these parts. I'm now in a bit of a quandary, in as much as I'd like to order a Campdraft in matching Moonstone Grey but am unsure as to which size to specify. Anyways I'll likely leave the Fed IV's open crown unbashed as its height complements my roundish face.

Post a dozen more times, so you can be allowed to post image urls. Then get us one of that magnificent roundish face of yours with an unbashed Fed IV. You have peeked my curiosity.

No posting limits for photos only private messages. Can do photos from the start...

Cool, did not know that.
But, he can't go making comments about his roundish face around people who spend all day looking at peoples faces, and heads and trying to decide what style hat would suit them best. There must be pictures.
The suspense is enough to kill me.

Just visualize Hoss Cartwright in your mind's eye sporting his iconic 10 gallon, same idea :)

Mine didn't come on Friday, unfortunatly. Should be waiting for me though when I get back home Wednesday!

Keeping the crown un-bashed, interesting.... I'd also like to see a picture of that on your head.

Got it today!

Love the color but I think it will take a little playing around with the crease - it's got that bulbous look to it after it's first attempt at creasing. It seems to have plenty of room to conform to my head, too.

By way of update, I wound up ordering the matching Moonstone Campdraft Deluxe, it arrived today from Australia's Hats Direct site. I specified 61 cm., being my nominal head size. The Campdraft fits me very well with just a bit of room to accomodate shrinkage &/or hair growth. As for my recently acquired 61 cm. Fed IV Deluxe, I stuffed a thin strip of material about 23" in length inboard of the sweat band, which noticeably tightened things up nicely. I then made a point of wearing the Fed esp. while in my vehicle on the few sunny days we've had these past several weeks. The Fed now fits quite well, & it's been tested under windy conditions. If I could order the Fed again, I believe that I'd stick to my nominal head size when all is said & done.

1st post

I'm ready to order a deluxe Fed IV and have emailed Hats Direct about this sizing issue. After reading this thread and the "I love Fed 4" thread (that was a long one), I'm still perplexed. I've owned half a dozen Akubras since '89 and all were/are size 60 and fit well. Using Hats Direct's sizing guide, I measured my head as 23 3/4 inches or 60.3 cm. My understanding from this thread is that for a deluxe, I should go with the 60 cm hat, as it sometimes runs large and is less likely to shrink. Have I got that right?

I'm waiting to see what Hats Directs recommends.

May 2d: Heritage Fawn, size 61, is shipping today. Here's hoping they're right about the fit.

My size 61 Akubra Deluxe Federation IV arrived yesterday in perfect condition. I'm very glad I ordered a size up. My half dozen other Akubras were all size 60. Hats Direct thought a 61 was the right size for my head dimensions. They were on the money. If anything the Fed is a bit tight. I've bashed it, fixing it with steam. With a Hat Jack and a bit more steam, I loosened the size a bit. I'll keep it, and all my newer Akubras, on a Hat Jack from now on. That should prevent shrinkage from here on out. Even bashed down, the crown on the Fed is really TALL. I'm used to Akubra's country hats, but am growing to like the "oversize" look of the Fed. My wife thinks it sucks, and she likes all my other hats.
