That's what I understand was cited (the government contracts/numbers/prices). If you want more info 'straight from the horse's mouth', I'm sure that Gary or indeed Andrew Swatland might be well placed to discuss it.
Sloan, are you suggesting that Perry wasn't the manufacturer? Superficial similarities to some the earlier Werbers yes, but there's documentary evidence to the contrary (but simply not labelled as Perry Sportswear).
I don't think that it's a question of funding, so much as time to undertake the research.
Andrew's a trained historian, so won't put it out before he's entirely happy with the results of the work.
I too am with Paddy and Smithy on this one - unlike many here, I haven't been affected by the reported activities. Perhaps if I had been directly involved I might feel differently, but the clamour and schadenfreude expressed in the posts leaves a sour taste.
As John says, I've had a whole stack of A-1 jackets (from three of the top makers) and won't sell my .50cal now.
It's more robust than the stock (untreated) ELC A-1, which is certainly supple and very forgiving of damage, but tough as old boots.
It's the repro that I could see being used...
Yes, will do - I've been buying and selling a number of ELC Irvins lately, but I'll put a together a quick montage - not in the Swatland league!
I now have a '42 pattern ELC from 1990 (dark hide, dark russet tapes, pale short fleece) in a size 46 and a size 7 (I think) original Links...
My first original Irvin was a 2-panel Links from 1939, which I bought for the same reason (i.e. iconic pattern with likely wartime associations with France and Dunkirk).

Thank you :) They are in beautiful condition and need to be displayed somewhere - that chrome plating is completely untarnished (incredible).
Currently on hold, pending payment.

However, these are simply...
Here is a selection of images of the aforementioned peacoat (taken in direct sunlight).
Please note that this is straight out of the parcel (it needs a dry clean and some minor stitching to close up several small openings on the sleeve, the rear neck and the shoulder seams. Nothing serious and...
Neither, Mr P (they're plain small and dished - like the profile of USN buttons on a G-1 or M-422) - diameter 0.5".
I'm more of a 43" (fall between sizes), so it's just a mite snug...
The dimensions of the jacket (buttoned and laid flat, measured using a flexible tape) are:
Pit to pit 22" (making it a 42"?).
Shoulders 18.5"
Sleeve (measured around edge from top of sleeve to cuff) 24"
Sleeve (pit to cuff) 16.5"
Front length 26"
Back length 30"
The buttons are small and...
