Aero wool halfbelt V Himel bros wool Canuck

Not a great fan of either (but then mixed leather/wool jackets don't appeal, nor do leather/hair grizzly jackets). If pushed, I'd go for the Canuck, but probably ask for the leather trim to be replaced.

The upper (russet) jacket with the fold down collar is the Waldo; the lower (darker) jacket with the knitted collar is the A-1.

    Eastman A-1 size 48: 2 Weeks In

Ouch...sounds like you should have kept it, but was the looser waist the problem?

    Eastman A-1 size 48: 2 Weeks In

Thanks Scott, thought it was probably that one. I had three (used) jackets from that batch of US domestic cape. Getting them confused :o

    Eastman A-1 size 48: 2 Weeks In

That one is either Worf's or one of my early GW A-1s. The hide is good, but looks better in the images - it can look a little '80s distressed leather in some lights.

    Unlined leather jackets....info request

Thanks HM. John Lever has an identical one, which sold me on it. I have also bought/sold the steer version - just not the same vibe.

    Unlined leather jackets....info request

My LVC Menlo Cossack (in goatskin) is unlined. I've not had any problems with it being difficult to put on/take off - quite the reverse.

    Eastman A-1 size 48: 2 Weeks In

I've had a lot of capeskin A-1 jackets (many from ELC and Good Wear and one from BK) and the ELC .50cal A-1 is quite different from the conventional A-1. The 'time worn' treatment toughens and strengthens the capeskin so that it's more like a light horsehide IMO. I's my 'go to' jacket during...

When we worked up my BK A-1 together, Platon and Andy (of Bill Kelso) were an extremely easy team with which to work. They were prompt with replies to e-mails, responsive to requests for changes to pattern/configuration and the workmanship on the resulting jacket was really top notch. As Mark...

    Aero Leather alpaca jacket lining

I have a Buzz Rickson N-1 with alpaca lining (I've previously had several ELC B-10 and B-15 jackets). I'm in the South of England and the N-1 really only gets significant daytime use from October through to February (or on the occasional cold/wet evening). I wear a shirt and a thin sweater...

Glad you persevered with the posting process, Mark - they both look superb and suit your body shape really well. Both A-1 and the derivatives certainly look best in the 36/38 range and they look more shirt-like. That Victory capeskin is a really warm, comfortable and pliable hide to wear. I...

Good to see the foregoing post prompted a thoughtful response - have to get the priorities right...right?

I didn't use the term Van, and I agree with all that you've just said. But I was stating that, however you cut it, Paddy could not be labelled as one.

BigJ, are we talking about the same Paddy? He can speak for himself of course, but he has never struck me as a follower of any particular brand. He's obviously a connoisseur of 30s and 40s styling and original Irvins (and clearly appreciative of different repro manufacturers whether Good Wear...

Paddy Middleton? You heard his thoughts on the matter (very succinctly and eruditely put, as ever) when he locked the thread before the comments were deleted and the thread re-opened.

    BR N-1 jacket 'Seawater-wash' question

Hi Paul If I recall correctly, my N-1 seawater wash did have a stronger aroma than the corresponding regular N-1. I can't tell you whether it fades - I couldn't get on with the incredibly itchy lining and had to trade it for a regular BR N-1 instead (which is a keeper for me). Hope it fades for...
