Good advice Scott.
Thanks for input everybody.
Carlos, it's a good plan, but I'm in no great hurry and if I had the ELC I'd only hanker after the GW.
I have a goat LVC Menlo that's going nowhere, so HH would make most sense.
I'm going to look at a darker brown or seal (not a really dark...
I agree with all those observations - that image is a classic style and, aside from the tartan, I'll probably go down the same route in a seal.
I'm not really that familiar with Shinki horsehide, roughly what weight is it?
Thanks Seb - I'll look into lighter weight horsehides. I have a rayon lining in my M-442, but I like the idea of a cotton drill, or a herringbone cotton twill liner if it's available.
Thanks for the advice ADC. I'm generally the same dimensions as John Chapman, although a little shorter in the arm (he's also 6', I'm 5'9", so this particular jacket would have worked for me).
I'll take the advice and go a little longer in the torso.
I've just put an order in for one of these and I'll liaise with John over the coming months to settle on the specifications.
I prefer lighter weight jackets (I'm not a fan of heavy steer or heavy horsehide) and generally prefer a well pebbled goat or lighter weight horsehide that will...
Further images.
A theatre ticket was found in one of the front pockets, which locates it to New York (which is where it was sold by Abercrombie & Fitch).
]This is a WWII-era AN-J-3 flight jacket (or possibly assembled later in the decade). A-J-3 jackets are extremely rare, and no original used by the military has turned up bearing a mil spec label. This one was used (possibly by a military flyer in Korea given the characters on the patch) and...
Thanks Dave, I'll reply with the info that you need.
I originally omitted two images, which I've now attached.
Both colours are true - russet undertones come out in really bright sunlight. The front shot was taken under duller skies, when it looks more seal.

The shell is a thick, soft capeskin - the grain is incredibly subtle and very similar to my former McGregor AN-J-3. This...
I bought this from John Lever quite recently, but I'm having a clear out so it's now for sale.
As John said in his original ad, it has a couple of scuffs/surface scratches, but nothing serious - I've tidied loose stitches and any tiny tears.
The fit is medium to large (I'm a 42-44"...
That is my BK custom made - I didn't have them shortened (I'm shorter in the arm, especially when reaching in my pocket for my wallet at the bar... ;) )
