Here's a heresy: if the manufacturer wasn't Perry, could it perhaps be Werber? Similar collar shape and construction, also similar pocket and flap shape. [huh]

Sloan, are you suggesting that Perry wasn't the manufacturer? Superficial similarities to some the earlier Werbers yes, but there's documentary evidence to the contrary (but simply not labelled as Perry Sportswear).

I know he lists it as such in the book, I've seen the 1756 page, but does he explain it elsewhere how he arrives at that attribution? I'm not disagreeing, btw, I'm sure it is a Perry jacket. It's just that I've not seen anything yet that I'd describe as irrefutable proof. [huh]

I'm just asking if Gary's reproduced the original contract somewhere other than in the 1756's entry in his book. He simply describes it as Perry, and says the contract was issued in 1945. I guess what I'm asking is if there's a piece of paper.

I'd never really considered an A-2 before, but after seeing some of the ones posted recently I'd started to reconsider. These pics have me sitting here quivering in a helpless, jealous rage. That collar reminds me of 19th century military tunics. Really dashing.

You know, when I first saw them on the Lounge, I didn't 'get' the A-2. But the moment I tried one on I realised that it's an incredibly stylish and cool jacket. Choose the contract that suits your physique and it'll flatter you to death. I love the 1756 collar, btw; as you say there's something marshal about it.

The combination of snug fit and knits, the A-2 is a fantastic windbreaker. Its light weight makes it incredibly user friendly to pull out of the closet on the fly.

To me, it would be an ideal jacket for Florida: cotton-lined, mid-weight leather. I do have a well broken-in buffalo A-2, but that's very much a Scottish summer-weight jacket...

if you wear a thin fleece shirt under (quarter zip) they are good to about 30 degrees!!!

It's a 'stand' collar. Has an extra piece of leather (strip) at the bottom that makes the collar stand up.

Seb, it is constructed with a collar stand to give it a military appearance.

Thanks, I understand the workings of a collar stand (I've had jackets with them too) but even with that I have never seen a collar sit that way. Are there any other photos of A2's with collars that sit like that? I know they tend to settle with wear (or HWT) I'm just struck by this one.
