I grew up around beach culture and in a VERY humid environment and I never even batted an eye at flip-flops. They were just *thee* summertime shoe in these parts. I never knew there was such a hatred of them until I frequented here. Personally, I don't wear them, but to each her own :)
Just a cute comment I get from time to time:
"You remind me of the 50s!"
lol I wasn't even wearing vintage clothing that day (jeans and girl-T) and I had my hair in a fingerwave. I guess my cat's eyes glasses are what does it :)
I wear my fake pearls when the outfit calls for it. Other than that, nothing. I was never a fan of jewelry. I don't even wear a wedding ring -- mostly because it makes my hand break out :( I have 10 piercing holes in my ears (it was the 80s!!!) and I NEVER wear earrings. Again -- my ears...
The actual act of dressing in the morning is the same if I wear jeans or one of my vintage dresses. I don't wear stockings or heels -- I'm more of a white socks and flat shoes kind of gal.
The only extra time I take is at night when I set my hair. This usually takes an extra 15 minutes. In...
Lately, my iPod has been liking Jane Green, Marion Harris, and Mildred Bailey!

I was child of the 80s. As vintage as I get are my record albums. I loved them things! I wasn't much into toys -- records, cassette tapes, and players to play them on were my "toys" as long as I could remember. And headphones. I loved my headphones.
Songs I LOOOOOOVE right now that are relevant to this board:

My husband even likes this one and he isn't really down with the vintage lol
It has occurred to me that I have never, ever heard an Amy Winehouse song! Not because I am "too vintage" (because I LOVE Lady Gaga and Ke$ha!) -- I just never sought her out.
We have (had) the same name, too. And I LOVE girl singers (way more that guy singers). You'd think I would have...
Neither guy sounds better.
But I'd more likely end up with a guy in a pirate jacket over a suit. Not the one in your description, though. He would be wearing a pirate jacket because he would be socially awkward, fashionably challenged, and NOT "conventionally good looking" by a landslide...
There's been a bunch of trolls here recently -- who only give 3 word responses to posts. lol We think they might all be the same person, too.
Still, I say 50s makeup. These are the brows you should do. Maybe a bit shorter tails:
Oooooh, Lizzie! I beat you in the "square" category on this one! Had one puff of a cigarette when I was 17 or 18, choked for about 3 minutes straight, decided it was gross, and never touched them again in my life lol
I gotta admit -- I do like seeing smoking in old movies. It adds a...
I say wear it, too. You won't outshine the bride. I've worn all kinds of vintage concoctions to "normal" weddings and I've never, ever once felt I outshone the bride. It's really up to you and your comfort level, though :)
