I've since asked my grandmother more questions -- most of a "female" nature, hence why i wanted to keep this in the girls room :)
Paraphrased:
Me: So what happened when you first got your period?
GM: I was 12 and I had no idea what it was! My mother saw the blood in my panties and handed...
Yuppers! Could care less what anyone here thinks of FB so I don't go in that thread anymore. I *do* care what people here think of, say, silent films, George & Gracie, or Hollywood patterns.
I always thought I was a decent contributor and my knowledge of vintage is pretty good --...
My paternal grandparents wanted to be childfree, but my my paternal grandmother "accidentally" got pregnant with my dad when she was 39! We have a home movie of her when she was pregnant (1941) and she gets up and smacks the camera lol
As for me, I vowed never to have children when I got my...
Yea, it swings. I live vintage to an extent, also. But I also think evil modern technology has brought me closer to my love and knowledge of vintage. Without it, I'd have or know nothing!
As for being tongue in cheek, yes, some people are silly in those threads. Even *I* have tried...
I have to agree here. I've not posted on the Lounge a lot lately because it just seems to be the "What modern stuff do you hate" Lounge. It has coloured my opinion quite a bit.
I can't find the thread, either. But I also wrote a blog about it, which was basically the same stuff I said in the FL thread.

This.
LAME. *yawnnnnn*
Modern technology brings me closer to vintageness. Without my iPod, no vintage music or OTR -- since my husband is not really a fan.
Facebook brings me closer to family and old friends who have moved away. I've also met some real great vintage-loving gals whom...
I loathe ebay. I don't even consider it when I'm looking for something. There are FANTASTIC "antique" shops in South Jersey that sell great stuff for dirt cheap. I get my housewares and furniture there. I don't wear vintage clothing, but I like vintage patterns and I can get them in SJ for...
A guy gave me a fist bump last night. I was painting my fingernails, though. I wasn't offended -- it was a friendly gesture in my own home. He took into consideration that I might mess up my nails if I actually shook his hand :D That's pretty gentlemanly to me.
Maybe it's regional, but 99.9% of all people here (man or woman) will hold the door open for you and will also say "Thank you" in return. It's just common courtesy.
As for my husband, he always gets out to get gas and he drives MOST of the time, but not because he's a gentleman -- lol. He...
I was in New Jersey and he was in London, England for the first year of our relationship.
We've been married for almost 6 years. If you are crazy about each other it can be done.
Also, my British-born husband has joined the American military and he just came back from 4 months Basic...
Lola!!!
I don't know any Lolas, but it seemed like a pretty popular-ish name back in the day.
I named my dog Lola because when I got her Bombshell (1933) was my favourite movie :D
More names from my family tree that are no longer widely used:
Gladys
Barbara
Oliver
Job
Josephine
Betty Jane (my all-time favourite name!)
George
Earl
Ellis
Helen
Beverly
Edith
Ora
I had an aunt named Fannie Elma. THAT is a vintage name! My living grandmother is named Doris Mabel. Her mother was named Mabel Compton (Compton was her MIDDLE name!) Mabel's mother was named Lora -- which I guess is timeless.
My paternal grandmother was named Lillian and my maternal...
Some family names that are "vintage" and not really used today (sorry if these have been repeated):
Doris
Lester

Melvin
Ruth
Lillian

Elma
Maurice

Gloria

Abraham

Oh, I forgot that one!! Really!
I don't have an iPad, for real, but I don't know anyone with one! I have use for my iPod -- brings me closer to vintage music and radio shows. My husband isn't such a fan and I listen to it at work and in the car......I mean my HORSE AND BUGGY.
I have thin hair, too. Pin curls will make it thicker and more managable. I used to think I could never do anything with my hair, either, but the pincurl is a saviour. You can do rolls on pincurled hair. If you attempt any hairstyle without them it will either slide out or look really bad.
