    Virginia Burt?

Does anyone know anything about a singer from the 20s named Virginia Burt? The only thing a google search turned up for me was where I discovered her: http://www.archive.org/details/dhawaii1923 She recorded this song in 1923. She sings and then suddenly switches to imitating a steel...

The Closet Door is Open - Lavender Ladies & Gents of the Golden Age of Hollywood

Lilyan Tashman was rumoured to be a lesbian (or at least bisexual): She was married to Edmund Lowe and it was said to be a "lavendar marriage." Unfortunately, she died in 1934 from abdominal cancer :(

    Radical life change needed!

Only *you* can change your eating and exercise habits, angeljenny. Nothing anyone on here will make a damn bit of difference unless you motivate yourself to do it. I'm smack dab in the middle of losing 20 lbs. I have stopped sewing and wearing my cute vintage dresses I made because they do...

My almost 17yo dd wants this post-war VINTAGE CAR!

If my daughter wanted an old car I would tell her to wait until she got some driving years under her belt and I would also make her do her research. :) I'd want her to know all about how different they are from today's cars, both safety-wise and mechanics-wise. My child owning an older car...

My almost 17yo dd wants this post-war VINTAGE CAR!

My dad would never let me drive an old car because the steering wheel columns have been known to impale the driver in an accident. He grew up across from a body shop in the 40s and 50s -- he told me his share of gruesome tales. He would often see the column sticking out covered in blood...

    The Good Wife - 1955

lol Same with my grandmother! According to my dad she often used the phrase "Son of a b*tch!" to describe my grandfather and frequently threatened him with the same skillet lol They wrote a bunch of love letter to one another in 1937 and my dad says "That's not the parents I knew!" lol

    make-up for a recovering tomboy

I hated makeup until I was about 21. I can't stand having too much crud on my face and it isn't necessary most of the time. I just use a bit of concealer under my eyes to tame the purple circles, but other than that it is just lots of crud on my eyes and my Ruby Woo lipstick :D No layers...

What my grandmother told me about life in the 1940s.

I just remembered this one: Me: How were you affected by the Depression? GM: I was lucky because I was sheltered from it. (She says this knowing that I know her father was the ONLY car salesman in the area!)
