what sort of man do you find more attractive?Suit or jacket?

If there were two guys, both young and both attractive, which one would you find more attractive?
(based on two guys i actually know)
1. A guy whos really settled and traditional, works in an office and always with nice cut suit. just works hard and keeps his head down in hopes of a promotion, a nice guy but motivated by money and success, really good looking though and lovely to talk too.
2. A guy whos a bit more 'free' who'd like to wear this kind of pirate jacket if necessary. Worked on a cruise ship for a little bit, went traveling and is more inspired by adventure. Also really attractive and has money but i wouldn't say money is his aspiration, more focused on showing his spirit and just being 'out there' both guys are great, a lot of respect, good manners, good looking, but its just funny how everyones so different

Since all but one of my close friends are female, I'll have a go at answering this: pirate jacket man.

Most girls I've met seem to be attracted to "badass" or "hardcore" men rather than sensible, "boring" men (that's not criticising either man, just the first impressions I think they give off). Of course this is a forum frequented by vintage enthusiasts, so suit man might stand a chance .

Neither...... I would choose the guy standing behind them that makes an honest living (not for just money) that likes to get his hands dirty working on the house, car or in the yard and cleans up well, preferably in a suit and fedora

Love ya, rue, but I'd go the other way. One of the things I love about my guy is he has pursued his dreams regardless of how much money he would make doing it. He's an intelligent and ambitious person, and he doesn't hide it. Every man I've dated that fit description #1 was miserable deep down. I'll never be wealthy on my own, and together it's unlikely as well, but we both love and feel fulfilled by our chosen careers, so it doesn't matter. Just based on my experience, anyway

Anyway - from the perspective of which guy I would prefer that my daughter would bring home for us to meet, this is tough. I have concerns about both.
I would be afraid that Mr. "nose to the grindstone" would evolve into spending more and more time at the office in order to get that next promotion.
And I would be afraid that Mr. "free" would decide it was time to move on.

So, if your interest is long-term, I would say keep looking.
But if you are just interested in now, you will probably get a lot more life out of the second guy.

Well, I don't know. They heyday of pirates was the 17th and 18th centuries.... Arguably that makes pirate boy even more vintage than any of us.

True, but the pirates would have made poor partners, being away too much of the time and in such a risky profession (not to mention frequently consuming alcohol and engaging in debauchery). I would like to think that the people who would have worn hats and suits in the 30s and 40s would on average have been a better partner than a pirate.

Back atcha Gracie Lee I understand what you're saying....... I guess I just can't get past the pirate jacket...... unless it's Johnny Depp playing Jack Sparrow or he works at Treasure Island in Vegas, why is he wearing one?

I'm not inclined towards either, to be honest. The first seems married to his work/money and the second seems married to following his own dreams. Based upon that little blurb, both seem rather self-centered (now, this could be just because they are single and have chosen this a temporary "thing" to fill their time until they meet the "right one." Or it could be the fact that it is a little blurb.)

It seems that neither would put his family first based upon the description. That is a huge dealbreaker for me.

Your family (and providing for them financially, emotionally, etc.) is more important than chasing your dreams or getting a fat paycheck. I say that as somebody who is very career focused and as somebody who ran away and did the sailboat thing. When you decide to get involved in a serious relationship or bring children into the world, family should be first. Now that doesn't mean that you can't earn money or follow your dreams, it just means that you need to consider that you are now part of a package deal with others who also have dreams, wants, and needs. And part of your responsibility is to help those people live them out.

I'd rather know if he likes animals, will he ride a bicycle with me in the rain, is he kind to people, does he have a good heart, will he sit with me in a movie theatre and watch classic films, does he have a totally silly sense of humor... sounds cliched and not too hip, but it's what I'd look for before I'd give weight to the cut of his clothes or whether he's "young" ('cause each day he's gonna get a bit older! ).

They both sound like nice guys, but your friend wearing the pirate jacket seems to be the most... interesting. Whatever that means is up to you to decide, but that doesn't mean it's a good or a bad thing in particular. Are you planning on dating one of two?

lol Fair points.... Of course, several of the most famous pirates were ladies; it seems it was a less sexist profession than much of contemporary society, so perhaps the ladies could have simply taken to sea themselves?

Judging from the above, it seems that this is perhaps not a look I should revive....

If we're just going based on the suit versus pirate jacket, I'd go with the suit any day. Most men look really sharp in a suit. I'm not sure how many men can pull off a pirate jacket every day.....

I wouldn't base any decision about a person on their attire.

But I'd more likely end up with a guy in a pirate jacket over a suit. Not the one in your description, though. He would be wearing a pirate jacket because he would be socially awkward, fashionably challenged, and NOT "conventionally good looking" by a landslide, but the nicest, most balanced guy you'd ever meet.
