That seal velour is an incredible hat. I have a huckel Mercure that is also very thick probable dating from the mid 1960's. They made great hats. They still make the best velour.

Guerras are nice hats except they arent made by them. There really is no Guerra factory. They "farm" them out to different factories all over Italy. The quality varies greatly from style to style.

Aureliano, it is an easy job to restiffen a Borsalino hat. Just bring it by and we can press it out. There is no charge for this service when the hat is bought from us. It is true that the Borsalino hats do soffen up more than other hats but they last much longer than the average felt hat...
The Bailey Gangster is a wool hat. What you saw with the Scott Hats name was probably a fur felt hat.
Stay away from wool unless there are bugetary constraints. We have many hats such as the Temple from Stetson that look exactly the same but are of much better quality...
Dr Strange is right. The Scott name was used by Arnold Hats when they had a store on 42nd st during the 1980's. The store is long gone as is Arnolds. The hat itself was made by Bollman Hats.

Unfortunately, hats are not a common site here in NYC. What you will see are lots of caps, some baseball, some newsboy styles. But from time to time we do get people in our stores that want to dress up again and wear a felt hat.
Lets hope that more prople will feel this way again...
The hat is too fancy for a Yeomanettes hat. It appears to be more ceremonial. These hats do pop up from time to time on the 'Bay. I thibk the best thing to do is look at my old catalogs to see what exactly it is.

I think this was discussed in a previous thread. I have a similar one from Knox. It could be a womans hat or a pastors hat. In the other thread, someone did figure out what it was for.

Treat your customers well and they will always come back. Its worked for us for 61 years. Of course there are some limitations. I had a customer return a hat to us because the feather didnt match! We tried to explain to him that you can remove the feather , but he didnt want to listen...
I have never heard of the Stetson Murphy so I cant comment on the quality of the hat. What I can say is that Stetson did ship out quite a few hat to us that were rather heavy in weight and stiffness to our stores. The quality is the same as before but the stiffnes may cause the hat to fit...
To my knowledge, no one carries the brand here in New York. We stopped carrying them a little while ago when the local distributor stopped importing them from Akubra. There is only one company left in the USa that brings them in now and we wont buy from them.

Alot of these brands that you might find were house brands that were made for various stores over the years. Unfortunately most of the information is lost to memory. When National Hatters closed some years ago in New York, most of the manufacturing information was lost. They made all of the...
We send all of our Stetson, Dobbs and Biltmore hats in the boxes that they come in. Bailey hasny made any boxes in a while and Borsalino only makes boxes for the Beaver line. So we are required to provide our own box which by the way is much better for the hat. It has a handle an a better...
I believe that Courtney Hats was a house brand for the Harry Levinson stores. There is one on Ebay now. It looks to be from the 1960's. I know that the stores went out of business some time ago and stopped carrying hats in the mid 1960's. As to who made them , that is an answer that is lost in...
That Borsalino was bought in Italy probably after WW2. Its a great hat but it looks as though it will need a little tlc. You might want to get it fixed up by Graham at Optimo.

Talk to Gary Rosenthal Hatco. He owned Stevens Hats when they bought the Stetson label in 1970. I always ask him about these type of things.

After doing quite a few hours of research on berets for my stores , I see now that there is only one factory located in France and the other in Spain. They quality on both are pretty much the same.
My question to beret lovers-what is the most popular diameter beret today. I see that they are...
What I know about the Dalton Hat Company is that they were located in Yonkers NY . I was not aware that they did private label . They are long gone of course.
