I was in third position on those two as well, congratulation to TY and JtL.

I did manage to grab the other Borso of the night(9/20) on much less competitive bidding(I think Douglas already has one like this): Italian(store) 5X

Incidentally, Optimo is working on producing the "velour" finish ala Borsalino and will release it at some time in the future when the necessary level of quality and consistency is achieved. A Borsalino that looked much like this was one sample of the desired goal.

I do have one very similar. It is a XX I believe and it is very comfortable. You will enjoy it.

Landed out of the 'Bay...

I pulled this one in. It has a touch wider brim than my more modern Alessandria & maybe a darker tan but won't know until it gets here. The liner looks more vintage than my mid 1980's model. I was prepared to go higher especially for 7 5/8 but didn't have to.:) Can anybody tell by the lining if this was pre-factory move that I've read about?

Nice grab - definitely pre-factory move. 40's or 50's?

VERY nice! My limited study of these pages suggests that the wide brown sweatband puts it firmly in the pre-move era. Can't wait to see it on you!

Nice fishin', Deputy! I was hoping that was you, once I saw that it was 7 5/8. ;)

Cheers,

Thanks, Douglas -- and thanks for that sentiment.

The hat looks very good JtL and it is your size. When one of us wins we all win kind of... I have one from the same period or slightly newer but it is a size 7. Yours looks in better shape congrats.

You ever decide on sellin' that one, DOUGLAS - gimme a PM

It has some issues. Get this, someone had the bright idea of making the hat larger by slicing the sweat IN ALL FOUR DIRECTIONS.

I had it repaired by it is never the same.

Thanks all. I hope it is as nice as the photos look. I dig that really wide sweatband, doesn't look reeded tho...

I hope so Rusty. The one I have has the smallest brim I own, 2 1/2. I think I stated earlier it was 2 5/8 but it ain't that wide. The crown is okay but like you, I think this one is much more substantial.

I was a little surprised, Chief, that some of those big noggin anglers weren't casting harder against me! [huh] But not complaining at all!!! :D

Well, this certainly is not much compared to today's lounger haul...

...but it's the first Panama I've been able to acquire that actually fits me and is undamaged - $26 shipped on ebay.

It still has the original 'Bon Marche' $5 price tag, with a line through it and $2.95. The 'Bon Marche' is about a 15 minute walk from my condo, so kind of cool.

Now, back to our regularly-scheduled high-dollar hat parade...
