I was in LaRosa last year. I wanted to buy the store! But they dont give anything away so you need to be careful in there. The hat selection was very nice . I even saw a few hats in the goodwill store down the block from La Rosa's.

You fellow loungers in Germany are finding some great hats. The Huckels here are basicaly the modern day junk that are hard as a rock. I know that Huckel made some beautiful hats years ago as we used to sell them in our store. Unfortunately what we see here today is not what you guys get in...
When I was in Amsterdam a few years ago, I found a few vintage clothing stores that had hats. Lots of them. This was six years ago. I went out and bought two suitcases and filled them up with hats that I resold in my store. They were all Barbisio hats that had come from a clothing store that...
It is amazing that in Japan the boater would be a sellout. Here is the USA ,it is a dead item that has been relegated to barber shop quartets and old time reinactments. The two remaining manufacturers must be happy.

I'm curious Driespitz, are most of your vintage hats from Germany ? I wasnt aware of the vintage hat market in Europe. Finding a Stetson Bantam is a great find as the hat must be from the 1930-s.

Here is what I have found out about Palco Hats. They were located in either Danbuty or Norwalk Ct. The owner was Steven Palicos from Greece. They are long out of business since the 1960's . My informer told me that they may not have made their own hats , but were rather a jobber however this...
The only store that I saw that had hats at one time was a place called Potters. They did sell hats and actualy have a display of old hat boxes(not for sale) . Now all they must sell are Kangol caps.

I miss the Habig company. In their day, I think Habig made a great hat. We used to sell tons of them in our stores. their specialty were theur fancty finishes such as suede and velour finishes. They also had a beautiful long hair finish.

Thats very interesting. The hat is not from Borsalino but from Tesi . Tesi makes a lot of Borsalinos straw hat and puts their name in them. I know that the hats are way overpriced from Borsalino but believe it or not , the name sells the hat .
We have a Parabuntal hat from Tesi that we sell...
Im glad Marlo posted a picture of his "French" hat with the salesmans tags. That is the same liner is Johnny Pi had in many of his hats. They were made by Manson Hat Co in the USA during the 1960's. Now I know!!!!
That Gelot hat from Dinerman is a major wow!!!. Gelot was well known and tried...
Its interesting to see so many Flechet hats. I guess they are more common in Europe than here in the USA. I know we stopped selling them in the mid 1960's when the distributor closed.
I have heard of a company called "France" that was made in France but I've never seen one.
Has anyone on...
The quality of the parabuntal straw is very nice. The problem is that Mayser does not do a good job on the flanging of the hat. They come out too soft. Tesi does as much better job on straws.

The museum is open only on the weekends. You can take pictures but you cant touch any of the hats . I went with the director of Borsalino and was able to touch and feel all of the hats. It was an amazing experience.

Your Linney hat was made in the Czech Republic by Tonak. Linney is a name used by an importer located in England called Try and Lilly. 70 pounds is about right for the hat although it can be found for less here in the USA.

An American made Bors would not have a white tip sticker under the lining as the Italian versions do. The tacking of the band is very different as well. If anyone has a picture of a hat , I can tell fairly qulickly where it was made.
As for Easterm Europe , there were never any Borsalinos...
Borsalino hats have been made under license in other countries in the past. In the USa it was Bollman . In Columbia SA it was Colfieltros . Its realy not that hard to tell the difference between the origianl and the other versions. The quality is the first way to see the difference. USA made...
